Alumni Interviews

I have one in about a week and a half from Cornell... I didnt think Cornell had any sort of interviews but they contacted me (is that a good or bad thing?). What sorts of questions do they ask and how are the interviews weighted in admissions???

From what I hear and have read: The alumni interviews are done when it is possible. (no alumn. in my area, so i dont get to do one.) Basically, as long as you are nice then everything is okay. If you are really mean, and make some really rude comments about how ugly his/her spouse is... it will be a problem for your application. Otherwise, It doesn't really affect it any, except show you are a good guy/gal. If you dont have one, it doesnt count against you.

Basically just be yourself...maybe have a few questions for him like about his time at cornell....

goodluck!

I have not been contacted yet. Do you submit a request or how does the process work?

You don't submit a request, it's done if it's possible. For every person who lives near a willing alum, there's an interview, it's not a good sign and it's not a bad sign. I've spoken to someone who's done interviews for Cornell. Basically all they do is write a few sentences about you. It makes very little difference. I had an interview because I live in NYC and there are of course a lot of alums here.

I had mine for ED. He asked simple things like "what is your favorite subject, activity, thing to do outside of school...etc"
