on saturday i'm scheduled for an alumni/ambassador interview and was just asking for some probable questions that i'll be asked... and i was also wondering if this (the interview) is a considerable factor in the admissions process.

Did you try searching for an answer to this question?

Normally...I'd say the same thing Cayuga did...but since I have some time in between my experiments...I'll throw a few things your way.

1.) The interview is purely informational. This is an opportunity for the interviewer to get to know you and for you to ask the interview questions about Cornell. However....if you show up to the interview and are rude to the interviewer or an otherwise horrible person...the adcom will be made aware of this and it could negatively impact your application.

2.) When us alums are given an applicant to meet with...all we are told is your name, contact info, where you go to high school, your self-reported ethnicity and the college/major you applied to. We will not see your application or grades (nor are we supposed to ask about them).

3.) In the two interviews I've conducted so far, my typical questions were: "Why Cornell/What can Cornell offer you that other colleges can not?" "have you visited the campus/what did you like." I only had time for these 2 questions because we branched out into other conversation. Keep in mind...we're not out to get you!

4.) I always closed with "do you have anything you did not put on your application that you would like me to mention in my report?" None of them did...so that saved me time :)

Hope that helps you a little bit!

I'll just add that we do actually receive two other bits of information about an application: whether or not they are a legacy (although we can usually tell this from the secret handshake of Cornellians) and whether or not they are being recruited for a varsity sport.

Just today I saw an applicant who is being recruited for the football team and is the son of a fairly famous football player. Kind of exciting!

We need a sticky for this kind of thread.

Thanks for that info Cayuga :-)

I requested a sticky on the thread we had going two weeks ago, ffhrea, but no dice.

If only I had a modicum of moderating power...

^^haha...you and me both Cayuga :)

I'd probably defer the power to you, Dew.

awww...thanks

although...we could combine our power and make one super moderator :D
