Alumni is supposed to be a boost but will it hurt me in this case?

My dream school is the University of Maryland. I love the campus and I'm in a program that allows me to be there every week. After going to a few open houses UMD confirmed that they consider Alumni in the admissions process. Unfortunately the alumni association called my dad while he was in a bad mood. He did not want to donate and when asked why he didn't want to be associated with the university he replied "Its been a long time and I'm not involved anymore". So my question is this: Do they take note of his response? Will it negatively impact me even though I love the school and show as much interest as I can?

I think you’re underestimating the volume of information they have to keep track of in both the development office and the admissions office. Additionally, Maryland says that alumni/alumnae relationship is “considered,” but not that it’s really important. Really, if you think about it, how could it be? A huge portion of the applicant pool is related to one or more alumni.

It won’t negatively impact you–there are far too many applicants for there to be any link. They may “consider” alumni, but your GPA and SAT scores are MUCH more important in your admissions considerations.
