Essays-
Not a strong point??
Tell us about a time you felt challenged.... DANCE
Passion.... Spreading Culture (Cultural Events)

Recs..
Should be decent...

Interview
???
Alumni... Tried to be as confident as possible.

I am not asking for a definite answer. Just asking compared to people who get accepted am I a candidate that Exeter may consider seriously...

I don’t know what the 10 grade pool is like but I would definitely say you are an amazing applicant. I think that you will end up getting into exeter. I would advise you to contact the dance teacher and see if she could write you a letter of recommendation

My dance teacher is not a real “dance teacher”. He choreographs dances for fun and he is my classmate’s dad. I have only done 5 dances with. I usually choreograph my own dances to perform at cultural events in Indiana, Ohio, and India. I perform Indian dances.
Thank You.

No, I am talking about talking to the exeter dance teacher. You could get a letter for admission from them if they like you a lot!

No one can really chance you, because no one here knows how AO’s operate.

But perusing your things, you look good. Are you applying to any other schools?

I think that you are a considerable applicant, but your interview is one of the most important parts. So as long as that was good, I think you have a good application and a chance of getting in (I don’t want to give you lots of hope and then have you feel even worse if you are waitlisted or rejected)

Your academics, GPA, ECs look strong.

Just a couple of issues…

If you are an Asian American with Chinese or Korean background, you should belong to the most competitve applicants pool.

If you are from under represented Asian country, it may work in your favour.

Your FA situation should also make your competition more fierce because Exeter is not a need-blind school. Did you apply to Andover? It is need blind, meaning that it accepts the students and then looks at the FA application.

Anyway, I hope to hear good news from you and wish you the best!

I could not apply to many schools because all this in a hurry. I actually started to consider this late November and at that time all I was looking at was Exeter. I really wish I had tried many schools but hope for the best. Oh, and I am from Punjab, India.

I think I had a decent interview. “Speaking” is not my strong point so I was really nervous. I tried to look confident. But Thank You.

Yes, I guess you’re good. But nobody really knows your chances. It is pretty much a crapshoot although grades and scores are important to some degree. Do you have a certain passion? At your interview did you demonstrate that passion? Did you include that passion in your essays? It all comes down to two main things: 1. The right timing; they may need a violinist or cellist at a certain time. 2. How you set yourself apart from other applicants; what makes you so different from other young men and women with perfect grades, perfect tests scores, and a laundry list of extracurriculars?

Schools like Exeter try to admit students who would need their school and thrive there. You may not need Exeter. It sometimes depends on the mood of the person who happens to be sifting through a set of apps on a given day. We all really don’t know who they will accept. You’re a remarkable student and you will thrive anywhere. The fact that you are aiming for Exeter expresses your desire to better your education. Your education is what you make of it. Frankly I think you will succeed wherever you go. And it may be Exeter. No one knows your chances. Sorry for being harsh and all, but chances threads do not help all that much.

No your response was not harsh. I understand no one can really chance me. I did really express my passion for dance in my essay and interview. I tried to show that I am very cultural. I do all types of Indian dances and even some American. I really expressed my passion for culture and spreading it. I hoped that may have set me apart. A lot of people are not really proud of their culture and I tried to show that I was. Other than that yes I do not need Exeter to live. I am applying to it to really just for experience and for a better education.
Anyway… Thanks… Hope I can get in…

If you are Korean or Chinese American, I am sure your competition will be more intense. But Indian background… I don’t know. Maybe there will be others here who knows better than I. I guess Indians are slightly toward an ORM… But again, I am not sure.

One thing I am sure is that your FA status will put you through a more intense competition than the ‘free’ applicants’.

Yes I know my financial situation does put me at a bad spot but hope for the best. I have looked through a lot of galleries in Exeter’s website… not too many Indians. I think I may have seen one but who knows if they are actually Indian

Do they need someone from Indiana? Well or poorly represented already? I thought the Dakotas or Wyoming were most in need.

REPOSTED FROM ANOTHER THREAD:

Ok, current Exeter student here.

I’ve realized that chancing is pointless. It just is. Looking at the kids who are in my class this year, I see that the majority of them are not the brilliant geniuses advertised on College Confidential. Really. So, just wait and forget. Live your life. Sleep. Because you want to stock up on that precious thing called sleep if you plan on going to boarding schools.

You will never ever know whether you will get in until March 10th, around 6:00 am, as I recall.

Well, unless you’re my classmate, whose dad donated close to a million dollars, give or take, to the school. I don’t think he needed a chance me.

I know in someway inside me I also know chancing is pointless. It feels nice, however, when people say you are a candidate or when people plainly tell me how pointless it is for me to apply…

Don’t put so much stock in what other people on this board think. Be yourself and be it well. Everything will work out. Thank you for honestly admitting how futile it is to “Chance me” I think some kids actually believe they have a better chance based on the feedback.

@firstgenbsp112 I would have thanked you many times over, but I can’t…

So did you get in?
