My dad went to a local college and got some credits but never recieved a degree, so I've been putting some college for my dad when the application asks. So if my mom did nothing after high school and my dad is only some college, will I be considered frist gen? And can being a first generation student really give you a slight edge over some other candidates?

If he doesn’t have a bachelor’s degree, then you’re first-gen by most colleges’ standards. And yes, it does give you a boost.

It gives you a tip at colleges that value that. It depends on the school. Check the Common Data Set, Section C7 to find out.

Yes, technically.
