yea, it is selective but not compared to last yr...ucla had the lowest yield rate but this yr they've raised up a bit so Berkeley was the lowest for 06-07...iono, there could be a chance that they'll increase their yield rates even more nxt yr....all i noe ucsd is gettin quite popular now....:)

Uh...huh.

Care to try that in English, as opposed to teenager netspeak?

UCLAri:

i am a teenager and this is the internet so why cant i do the whole "teenager netspeak" thing? besides, the threader IS a teenager so what's your point?!
being the english teacher your profile says u are, u should be able to understand this even tho it may be colloquial...part of being a successful teacher is to be able to comprehend what the student is expressing even if their penmanship/ grammar/ spelling isn't all that good

why does it seem to me that u are tryin to make a personal attack on my comment?
i am simply tryin to encourage the threader to keep hs/her hopes up on UCLA and just because u dunt agree with my opinion about LA being not that hard to get into, you dunt have to pick on the way i choose to type my words.......

sunsurfN_sand,

Look, I can tolerate the occasional "netspeak," but your post was bordering on unreadable. I'm sorry if you took my comment as a deep personal attack; it wasn't. But, as the poster, it is your responsibility to make your posts readable. It's not my responsibility to sift through hieroglyphics readable only to you.

Write your first paper in college in netspeak. I dare you. ;) Poor grammar and spelling WILL lose you points in school.

This has nothing to do with my disagreeing with your (erroneous) belief that UCLA is not that hard to get into. Only on CC does UCLA ever end up being considered an easy school to get admitted to. Otherwise, it is one of the most selective schools in the nation.

Anyway, my post was not really an indictment of much of anything. It was merely me saying, in a very roundabout way, "say that in standard English." I'm not even saying that you should bother capitalizing and using proper punctuation (though it helps), but consider how readable your post is to the average person.

iF i TyPe lIk DiS iTz A bUrDeN oN dA rEeDuRz Iz AnD SeNsIbIlItEEz.

Okay, that was an extreme example, but my point is basically the same: think of the reader, not yourself.

o so ur sayin that my words are like hieroglyphics ... RIGHT, i bet u that most people would understand what i wrote..i mean come on, this is the era of technology...dunt tell me when expect a text message to be in perfect english...that'll juss make the text freaken long
and whose stupid enough to write a college essay in netspeak....netspeak is for the net! thus the name DUh
and if my post was bordering unreadable, how come u replied to it? that means you understood the general message of the post....what more would u want? as long as you understand what im gettin across, this isn't about who "who speaks the best english"
and i said that in my experience, its not that hard to get into...which doesnt imply that its NOT hard AT all...i never said it wasn't selective....
also, the reason why i said it isnt too hard to get into is because i have been admitted myself this year and i think i am pretty much an average student with some extra curriculars here and there...
ive decided on cal but im not sayin that ucla isnt challenging....
o yea and one more thing, juss because u refuse to agree that my typing is comprehendable, it doesnt mean that others have a problem with it too....and refering back to wut u said, you should think of others and not just yourself :P

anywais, ima go to bed xD ill debate with u later hehehe ciao

sunsurfN_sand,

Well, not only have you demonstrated a clear lack of understanding of what it means to be "clear and concise," you also don't understand how statistics work.

Bravo.

Look, you may continue to type in your butchered form of English, but I'll bet you this much: My posts will be taken more seriously.

okay stop arguing. good thing ari's in japan and surf shouldn't come to ucla haha. just kidding guys.

sunsurfnsand, I would like clarification.

Especially about lowest . . . lowest what? And compared to other UCs? UCLA and Berkeley? All colleges in the country?

just between the UCs
last year LA accepted the least amount of ppl
this year, Cal accepted the least

Number of people, or pecentage of applicants?

It would make me feel better if UCLA had the lowest acceptance rate, but I can only ask for so much! :)

number of ppl accepted from those who applied

I don't see people's obsession with this. Why does it matter?

Haha. Anybody have any more chances?

UCLAri:

it matters because it makes them feel better about getting into a more "selective" place. never mind that UCLA is already one of the best public schools in the country....some just need that extra ego kick.

Y'know, I guess I never really cared. For me, program quality came before selectivity. I'd choose Michigan over UCLA for many programs, yet UCLA is probably more selective.
