Am i a hopeful for the great UC of LA?

Hey guys. Thanks for readin'.
I'm currently a sophomore.
Freshmen grades werE BAAD. not that I'm stupid, i just didn't realize they mattered that much.=/

freshmen :2.4 average UW

sophomore: 3.65 average UW

junior year: SAY i got a 4.0 UW cause I have been getting consistent 4.0's after first quarter of sophomore year.

I hear UC's only count 10th/11th grade. so will they disregard 9th??

EC's

-Varsity Basketball
-Junior Class President
-Founder/President of a non-profit charity organization
-Varsity Volleyball

-Basketball MVP (most valuable player)

I AM A CALIFORNIA RESIDENT
BUT i live in beijing, china? i moved there. Still a resident though..

SAT: Predicted 2000-2100+

can people give me chances?
I know this should be in "What are my chances?" section, but i want to hear it from UCLA students themselves. =] THANKS GUYS

P.S. I'm guessing my UC GPA. as in 10th/11th will be 3.82 UW. just a prediction. =/

what the heck happened your freshman year. i would say no, haha just kidding.

protege:

UCLA: Slight Reach

I'm going to be a bit more reserved and say reach, since the SAT score isn't in yet.

Yeah, the UCGPA is based on your soph and junior year grades only. There's no weighted and unweighted UCGPAs either; it is what it is. They put a cap on extra grade points for honors courses after 8 semesters' worth. What classes are you taking?

"Yeah, the UCGPA is based on your soph and junior year grades only."

Really? I didn't know that.

^ Yes sir :D

damn i should've screwed around during my freshmen year and had fun. :(

haha

^ Swift, only if you don't care whatsoever about class rank.

Protege : Reach.

You have a chance. Freshman year won't matter that much. They'll look, but it wont get calculated into UC gpa.

Generally EC's hardly count for ****. However in your case, being the founder of a non-profit charity organization may impress them

If you live in China, You are NO longer a resident of CA. If you've been in China for more than 6 weeks in the last half year, you better have a good explanation for that when it comes time to fill out SLR.

Dude you better get in we need all the hoopers we can get. Good luck.

Haha bruin88. =P All the hoopers you need haha.

To twlightzer0: I'm pretty sure I still am a resident of California. We still own a house there and, legally, I am still a resident.

I'm taking the Full IB Diploma. Not sure how that factors into the UC System's importance.

In China, there EC's are hard to come by, there isn't that much to do there like the states. I'm sure that matters if compared, but I hope they look at me differently.

Very true. I'm working in Japan, and I had to explain myself. I don't know that protege will have a good enough reason to say "I'm a resident."

UCLAri. What was your explanation? I don't understand what's happening.

Well, I technically didn't change residence. I'm not a permanent resident in Japan (only here on a temporary Visa), and I continued to pay taxes and vote in California elections. My driver's license is still Californian. Etc. etc. etc.

You'll have a harder time showing that, since your move has been more permanent.

its really not that hard to get into ucla in my experience...

Oh. I think my family still pays taxes to California, and like, even though our move is more permanent. i'm pretty sure we're still res's. I'm not sure lol. I'll find out when time comes =/. And really? UCLA is pretty good isn't it.

Too bad the experience of tens of thousands of other students a year contradicts your experience.

Yes, there are exceptions, but let's face it: It's pretty damned selective.

Unfortunately, that's up to the school to decide, not any of us. The rules for determining residency are convoluted and oftentimes anything but intuitive. I would consider asking someone at admissions what they think, since only they can decide who's a resident and who's not.
