Am I a reasonable candidate for top business schools? (MBA Programs)

So just a little back story, right now I am a junior at the University of Maryland majoring in mechanical engineering. I've had a few different internships (NIH, Computer Sciences Corporation) and I've realized that engineering is not for me. One of the draws of the degree was good pay and interesting work. So far, neither of those seem to be true, at least in my case. So I've decided to stick it out, work for a large engineering company for a few years, then go back and get an MBA and move into either consulting or banking (assuming of course I can get into a top program). I want some idea of the chances I would have at a top program, one which would allow a transition to banking or consulting. With these stats, assuming I apply to a good number of top programs, is it reasonable that I would be able to get into at least one?
Thanks for the advice!
UG School: University of Maryland
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.40
GMAT: 720
Work Experience: 2-3 years

A lot of the big finance companies might hire you right out of undergrad, due to the math skills you gain in the engineering major. Likewise, you may be able to get a job in consulting right out of school. I’d suggest you try for such jobs, as well as for jobs in engineering. See where you end up.

If you’d like to try for corporate finance or investment banking, try to do an internship in those fields while an undergrad.

In terms of your actual question - your GPA is a bit lowish for top MBA programs, but it won’t necessarily keep you out if your GMAT is really a 720, and if you get really solid work experience.

Try to get the GPA a little higher, but overall you have the basic numbers to have a shot. Now your story and work experience will really decide your appeal to Adcom.
