Am I a weirdo?

Okay, I've noticed that the majority of people denote the title "favorite subject" to the one that comes easiest/they do best in. Am I the only one who thinks the opposite? I hate english/history simply because I find them terribly easy. Math and science have never come easy to me and I love them. What's the fun in ease, right? The challenge and rigor they present is what attracts me to them.

Anyone else share my sentiments?

Honestly, even the most academically focused person shouldn’t enjoy rigor and challenge.

I personally see those as necessary to achieve excellence. It’s not like I enjoy them, but I know I have to get through them.

So yes, you are weird.

There’s a difference between loving something you find challenging and loving something you find impossible. I don’t like sports because they’re pretty much impossible for me no matter what I do. I like math even though it’s not my best subject because I still do well in it and I think it’s fun and I like the sense of accomplishment after solving a problem I considered difficult.
People tend to be the best at what they’re interested in because they are more inclined to push themselves in their favorite subject just because they like it.

I am completely like you ram0276. I am great at English (I always have a 98+ in honors/AP, never had lower then an A on a test) and that is why I don’t enjoy it. Same with social studies, people spent weeks on a research paper, I wrote the whole thing the night before and got an A. Then there is math and science, I tend to scrape by with a low A in honors science and always get a B in honors math, but it is a challenge so I love it.

Me too! The english/history classes (except APUSH) are like a joke at my school. I always procrastinate a lot on homework from these classes because they’re really similar to busy work. I don’t need to think about those tasks and I can pretty much write papers for those classes in half an hour.

While I can’t say that I enjoy going to math class, if I do the homework every day and some extra questions, it really doesn’t feel like a drag.

Science is just really interesting to me, so even if I did get a less-than-optimal grade on a test, it doesn’t really dent my enthusiasm.

I came here expecting something other than school…

Oh CC!

It depends on the teacher. My Chemistry class was so difficult because my teacher wouldn’t teach us anything, but it was regular Chemistry 1 and I doubt the subject matter was really difficult at all. That’s not the kind of class I enjoy, so in that case, no, I wouldn’t enjoy a subject that is hard for me.

On the other hand, my AP Physics class is also really difficult for me, but my teacher is teaching us things and helping us get through difficult problems. This is a class I enjoy, because I know I’m learning a tough subject, I’m forced to used all of my brainpower, and at the end of a problem, I can say that I fully understand it and I feel accomplished. Unfortunately, this teacher is leaving, and next semester I’ll have a teacher that is notorious for being just like my Chemistry teacher… so, I’ll probably hate Physics next semester.

To an extent, I can relate, and to an extent, I can’t. I love English and writing, and this probably does tie into the fact that it comes extremely easy for me. Yet, I truly do love being creative with words and analyzing literary works. On the other hand, math has never been my best subject. It’s always required more effort from me; yet I LOVED calculus. It was a challenge, but I really enjoyed discovering how equations worked, and it’s lovely how all the numbers make sense together. So, yeah, it goes both ways for me. I think in the end I usually like the subject because I like it, and if it comes easily to me, that’s a great bonus.

I kind of get that. I really like chem even though I’m pretty bad at it. I still like things I’m good at though.

I really don’t think it’s weird. I hate the word weird, though. You can’t really define it.

My twin sister was never brilliant at science. She loves it, though. She falls asleep with the science channel on every night, and she plans on majoring in something Environmental Sciencey/Wildlife Conservation-ey. Despite the fact that she’s never been a science prodigy, it’s something she’s really interested.

With me, English right now is my lowest grade and my only B. It’s my favorite subject, though!

Being bad at math runs in my family. I’ve managed to get past the math curse more than my sisters, but we all LOVE math when we actually understand it. The challenge is fun if we can actually get the hang of it. I would never consider it a favorite subject, though, which is where we differ I guess.

I wouldn’t consider you weird! You’re a human being. If that’s weird, we’re all weird.

I’m the same, but opposite subjects to you  I find maths and physics so dull, and I am really brilliant at them. On the other hand, I love history but I’m not so great at it.

It’s not the rigor and challenge that attracts me to them. I just like that I sometimes I dont have all the answers. I like that I have to work to understand things. If something is easy, It definitely will not be my favorite. I’m really good at english and even received an award for it. But it still is not my favorite. If something’s easy I lose i terest. I plan on becoming a Biochem major. I would never be able to summon enough work ethic and “try” to become a really successful english major.

Not at all!

I’m naturally talented in English and history, yet I’m going to major in Bio and I plan to become a doctor! I love math (used to be really challenging, but I’m getting better) as well.
I’m also great at science (except for that A- I received in AP Chem, lol).

It all depends on the class. English/history are easier for me and I tend to find Math/science difficult. Yet I loved Algebra 1/Geometry and Chem/Physics as I thought they were really fun and relatively easy.

I’m actually the same way - I really do not like my AP World or AP English class because both are too easy and I get bored rather quickly - but I love Precalculus, which is by far my most challenging class but the most interesting since it pushes me to think abstractly.
