Am I allowed to be a frantic CC too? CHANCE ME!

Hello everyone,

I am applying for admission for the class of 2014. I am getting increasingly nervous about my chances, because I feel rather inconfident. I live in a underrepresented country in Western Europe.

My stats:

-SATI: 660 (M); 690 (W); 700 (CR)
-SAT II: WH: 740; Lit: 710; Bio E: 720
-Grades: average of 8.5/10; midyear report was a little lower (8 out of 10) due to illness (not explained by counselor);
This is really really high in my country, comparable to a 4.0 in a college prep system (100 procent goes to college afterwards; only 2 percent of country gets to go).
-AP: I took some AP exams as self-studied tests (only one in my country who did this prob.):
* World History: 5
* English Lang: 5
* Micro-economics: 4
I am taking more tests this year (also Calc BC, to make up for my math score).

ECs:
- Honors program at a prestigious university. Really selective. Took a lot of college courses, did research etc. 11 12
- School paper: Editor in Chief 9 10 11 12
- Private tutoring business (founder, director, 100 members): 10 11 12
- Soccer (team captain): 9 10 11 12
- Tennis: 10 11 12
- Debating (Founder): 9 10 11 12
- Lot of independent writing (philosophical essays etc. have been published) 10 11 12
- Class representative 9 10 11 12
- Political work (member of political party; been writing/campaigning a lot) 11 12
- Organiser literary program at school. 10 12
- Photography 10 11 12

Other:
- Independent Research (won prizes for my research...) in science and in economics.
- Lot of language qualifications (at C2/C1 level).
- My essays are good, or so I've heard.
- My recommendations were glowing, top of my career things, etc. Pretty personal as well (as far as I know).
- All my interviewers said my ECs/personality were outstanding, but they obviously do not know my abysmal scores.

So yeah.
My ECs are really good for my country I suppose, but my SATs are too low and my high school transcript is weird and I have lower midyear report grades (although still an A average)

Could anyone assess my chances?

Your scores are decent. But admission is tough for everyone, even those with AMAZING scores.

You’re in the same boat as the rest of us - nobody here can really “assess your chances” because statistically speaking, we’re all highly likely to be rejected. But someone has to get accepted, and it might just be you.

Stay positive, but know that it isn’t the end of the world if you get rejected. Wherever you go to college, you’ll have a wonderful time.

As a fellow international applicant, best of luck to you :)

Thank you!

Sorry, now I reread it, my chances thread sounds really obnoxious.

I understand that no one here really knows about the intricacies of Yale admissions commitees, but as domestic students I would assume people would know a little bit more about the process! When I first received my SATI scores for instance, I really thought I aced them (all being >95 percentile and such), but then I found out about College Confidential and 25 percent percentile scores and my hope pretty much sunk (also because of that <2100 SAT instant reject thread!)

I hope someone here could at least say if I have some sort of chance, or are an instant reject!

Merci beaucoup! And good luck to you too! Where are you from?

Sorry to bump this thread again, but does anyone else have an opinion?

Yeah, I have an opinion. Chance threads are the stupidest thread at CC. dont waste CCers time.

^ So true…

Okay, okay, I am sorry. I finally succumbed to making a chances thread. Just wanted to know if it was really pointless to even get my hopes up.

(BUT, it must be said, I am not the only one interested in chances threads, since this one has 182 views, and I am not exactly wasting your time since no one is forcing you to click on this thread and to post something!)

international admissions are always more competitive than domestic admissions. 1) do you need financial aid? if you can pay for everything, that’s a boost to your application 2) your test scores are still pretty low in a tough international pool with frequent +2250 and +2300 scores. I’d say you have a slim chance… just because Yale IS that competitive.

also, you might get more replies if you moved this to the Chances thread. just a suggestion.

^ I think Yale is needblind to both domestic and international students.

Of course you have a chance… but that can be pretty much said about everyone here on CC. Never give up hope, but be realistic. Know that only about 6% or RDers are accepted.

what country is it that you’re from?

Oh- sorry, you’re right. My mistake XP

Regardless… the pool is still going to be crazy competitive, though.

Your scores aren’t that great (they’re still good though!), but your extracurricular accomplishments are simply extraordinary. Coupled with your good grades, I’m fairly certain that you has an excellent chance to get admitted. While, due to the seemingly arbitrary process of college admissions at highly selective schools, there is obviously a chance that you will get rejected, there is an even stronger chance that you get admitted. Just read this guy’s EC profile one more time and compare it to almost any EC profile to acceptees in the decisions threads, and, still, his profile stands out as being one of the top I have ever seen. Even if you don’t get in, be proud of yourself because, heck, you got a hell of a lot to be proud of.

Whoow! You really think so Motion? That is amazing! I thought they were pretty good for my country, since no one here does any ECs at all, but I thought they would be pale in comparison to all the other qualified applicants! :D
