Think about the origin of the term "Caucasian".

Oh Wow,
I never thought about being Caucasian, the image I had in my mind was the 'White' image (Not trying to be racist). But after doing a few google searchs and looking in Wikipedia, this is what I got for the definition of a Caucasian.

Definition: "The Caucasian race, sometimes the Caucasoid race,[1][2] is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "relating to a broad division of humankind covering peoples from Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Central Asia, and South Asia" or "white-skinned; of European origin" or "relating to the region of the Caucasus in SE Europe".[3] The concept's existence is based on the now disputed typological method of racial classification.[4][5]"

If your so concerned, just call Stanford's admissions office.

The US Census actually categorizes North Africans, Arabs, Persians, etc. as Caucasian or white.

Right, excuse me, that's what I meant.

Oh dear - this question has been asked and put to rest so many times. Your race does not necessarily have to do with land masses. Persians are Caucasians (more like Italians or Greeks).

I am Cauc*asian* Asian....

Just list yourself as other. That is the best option. You are geographically Asian but not culturally. That is like an Egyptian saying he/she is African American. Technically, geographically they are, but not culturally. So, other is the best option.

For demographic purposes, a Persian would definitely be considered "White" by the U.S. Census bureau, and this is a piece of demographic data collection, not a geography test.

White. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. It includes people who indicate their race as "White" or report entries such as Irish, German, Italian, Lebanese, Near Easterner, Arab, or Polish.

Black or African American. A person having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa. It includes people who indicate their race as "Black, African Am., or Negro," or provide written entries such as African American, Afro American, Kenyan, Nigerian, or Haitian.

American Indian and Alaska Native. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America) and who maintain tribal affiliation or community attachment.

Asian. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam. It includes "Asian Indian," "Chinese," "Filipino," "Korean," "Japanese," "Vietnamese," and "Other Asian."

Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands. It includes people who indicate their race as "Native Hawaiian," "Guamanian or Chamorro," "Samoan," and "Other Pacific Islander."

If you want to say White/Caucasian, say white; that's fine. For you, a response of "Asian" would not be an expected response to this question. If you want to say other, go ahead; that's fine too.

woah! I think u r techinically an asian! But my best advice wud be to talk w/ the particular college admissions to see how they regard this factor! ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race

Actually they are white in this article.

that's wikipedia. :p :p :p

I never thought that this thread would get as much response LOL.

I am going to write Caucasian/White, considering that there is more evidence to prove that. Thanks for all your help.

In the US college race system, ppl from the middle east, north africa, and europe are considered white.. sorry if this has been said (didn't read all the posts)

The US Census considers you white.

If you think writing yourself as White will terribly help you out (in any way) then I wud be skeptical abt it!

Why dont you just leave it blank? Unless you "want" to be identified specifically as persian, I'd just leave it.

Otherwise, you could just put "Persian"... or what you could do is put asian and then maybe write "persian" in brackets.
