Hi!

I was born in India, but moved to america at a young age. I studied there uptil 9th, and attained citizenship. I then moved back to India due to some family problems, and am living here since 10th grade (in 11th now). Do I count as an international student? How and when do my application process start? I am writing my SAT and ACT.

If you are an American citizen, then I think you are not classified as international. You will not have to get a visa to study in the US and you should qualify for federal financial aid.

You have to go on the web of every school you’re applying to see their “definition” of international students.

You are a domestic applicant because you can be considered for federally determined (FAFSA) aid. This is an excellent thing. You don’t need a visa, and you can get a job anywhere you like - two more excellent things. Some students in your situation do qualify for in-state residence somewhere in the US. If you have a parent currently living in the US, check out the residence rules for the public colleges/universities in that state.

Contact each of the institutions on your list, and ask them how they want you to handle your US transcripts from 9th grade, and your foreign transcripts after that.
