Does Harvard look at freshmen year?

Wow, amazing ACTs, amazing SAT 2's, amazing SATs, and absolutely ASTOUNDING that you made BOTH USAMO and TASP!!!!

You have a VERY good chance!

well...footonthehill, I wouldnt say he has a "very good chance"

With respect to omnis, I think your resume looks particularly strong. USAMO, although not as spectacular as Black MOP or IMO, is still a strong achievement nevertheless, and combined with debate and TASP can be a deadly combination. I would assume you also have taken college classes? ODE, LA, MVC? Maybe even Analysis if you get lucky (that class is going to rape me), but overall, I think you stand a pretty good chance.

99% chance. Let not kid ourselves, he has a FANTASTIC chance! The only way you'll get denied is that your essay really bombed, you screwed up (with a B+) during your Senior Year. And you decided to published a book that you "interpret" from some other authors.

Reddune, either you haven't seen impressive resumes or you are just ignorant. There is no way in hell the OP has a 99% chance. I would like to restate that he has an above average chance, which is decent because usually the people who apply to Harvard are the top from their schools anyways.

Class rank?

You will be applying with a 3.67 UW which is not bad but stellar. FWIW, Princeton doesn't count freshman year.

Kyzan, I'm so sorry. I forgot you're the authoratative source here at CC. Your judgement is the final word in all matter. Forgive me for my insolent great one.

What kind of condescending jerk are you? I haven't seen impressive resume and ignorant? What make you qualify to judge me? This is an opinion thread, what I said is my opinion, and the same is to you too. Let me see your awespiring credential, your years in the academia, the hundreds of students you helped get into the Ivy League. You sir/madame aren't not an expert, and neither am I, but I'm not so arrogrant as calling people ignorant or ignore my own.

I volunteer for a scholarship outreach (Gates Millennium Scholarship). I've look at hundreds of application and advised a few dozen. Two of my mentees got in to Harvard this year. One got into Yale. One with a 2190 SAT 3.7 GPA and decent EC. Two other has slightly higher. I believe strongly that this young man/woman here has 99% of getting into Harvard. I didn't say 100%, but will not back down from 99%. I have moderate experience interacting and helping students who reached the top, what the bloody hell did you do except going on this forum berating other.
You disgust me.

top 3% weighted

Also, I don't care for princeton... that's kind of why i posted in the harvard forum :)

TASP, USAMO, Top 25 at Nationals debate and midwest, looks good - no gurantees

Did you qualify for MOSP?

Physics B or C? What will be your major?

B, totally undecided about my Major, I love math and science but after all that debating I want Law... BUT, with all those awards and honors... will they overlook my 3.67 GPA if I apply EA?

It is not about you, it is about rest of your peer who have equal achievements. They aslo bring USAMO, TASP, RSI, debate, essay competitions, outside scholasrhips, GPAs, similar Stats and many more extraccurricular activities and passion. Thus the rest of the pool will be your competition

So I'd still be competitive wit that GPA? Would it be in my best interest to apply ED or wait for RD?

No idea. No one can tell. It depends on other candidadtes who are applying. SCEA does not gives you a better boost over ED. But you have to decide what is best for you and go for it. Do not worry about others. Do what your heart says.

Omnislasher -
top 3% is respectable; you are a valid candidate - so go for it. Just remember that the odds are not generous, and to look at other fine schools as well.

As to SCEA, I think you probably should (if its ok financially), but I think that you schould also apply to a couple of less competitive schools RD first. One's first application is not alway's one's best, and if you are set on Harvard you want your application to present you as best it can.

At this stage of the process, it is easy to fixate on numerical statistics ... and they are not unimportant. However, high stats alone are not going to get you into Harvard. But at some stage in the process, someone is going to read your application. It will take them all of about sixty seconds to scan these values. Then, they will read your essays and recommendations. If they can really see you in these documents - and you could help them complete their class - then you have a shot. Good luck!

ohio_mom:
"The odds aren't generous"

Is this because of Harvard's low acceptance rate, my transcript, or both?

Many Harvard's acceptance rate. If you were class val on top of your SAT scores the numbers would be a bit more positive in a general sense. But if you did nothing but study since you were in kindergarten, you would'nt be you - and its you the person that would be admitted, not a string of numbers.

You have a tremendous record and have accomplished a great deal. But Harvard gets an avalanche of applications, and they can't admit everyone. If I thought you shouldn't bother with the application, I would say so. Give it your best shot, and let the wheel spin.

Alright- just as a clarification... what Ivies/Top schools don't look at Freshmen year?

And- Harvard would still take into consideration the huge upward trend, right? :) Thanks for your help!

The only one I am sure of is P'tn. What is it that appeals to you about Harvard? What are your geographical preferences? Intended major?

If you like Harvard, do not apply Princeton. However, if you like princeton and do not need any need based aid, then go for princeton. (princeton aid is very generous and very accurate by calculator). No one can tell you whether you will be in or not. Go for what you like and see what happens. You have a track record but there are no gurantees.
