Am I completely and utterly screwed? Cause i feel that way

Hey... So the may scores are back. My composite is 1870 :||||. I doubt i can take it again, it's a pretty big financial strain on my family. As an intl with no money, 4.0gpa, great ec's (will detail this in a bit, i am not on my computer) and everything else except a good sat score... Am i to believe that it's over for me? This has been the worst day ever...

Right, to add some ec’s…
-I’m a county coordinator in the european youth parliament, have also been an ambassador and a chairperson at sessions.
-I play bass guitar in a rock band and also in the school band
-i play varsity handball, but i don’t know if i want to add this to the app, because i don’t want to play in college, i’m having some problems with my ligaments. Also, training takes up a lot of my life, from 8-11PM every school night…
-I volunteer in a child day care, teaching the kids English and art
-I help with the organizing of big music festivals in the country (with an organization called the volunteer brigade)

And a lot others, I have 2 years of work experience, as a bar singer on saturday nights from 10pm to 2-3AM, and as an editor for a sports website…

So… am I COMPLETELY screwed?

I think that the SAT score will be one of your application’s weaknesses. However, you seem to have a very diverse life in a very diverse country. If you can channel those experiences into your desire to learn (I assume at an American university), that could definitely overshadow the SAT score.

And just so you know, an 1870 isn’t a bad score at all (unless you’re shooting for Ivy Leagues).

Thanks!
I kindof haven’t lost ALL hope, I mean… The SAT isn’t everything in the application. I’m not aiming for the Ivy League, but they are on my list along with all the other full need awarding schools for internationals.

I really feel like I could make a change, you know? Do something great. But over here, that’s as close to impossible as it gets. If you don’t have money or connections, you’re basically screwed  So here’s to some American University looking past my score haha

any other opinions?

Where are you applying to?

I used my 4 score reports to send to Occidental, Pomona, Stanford and Columbia (didn’t expect such a low score). Will be applying to almost 20 universities. Basically the top universities, cause they’re the ones that offer full rides to internationals, albeit just 6 are need blind

Have you consider narrowing your application list? That way you could save up some money for another shot at the SAT.

That wouldn’t really do any good, seeing as I’ll be using fee waivers for all of the schools. I’ll be selling my practice books and stuff, hopefully I can get a few bucks

Well, many of the selective places, i.e the ones he’s considering, waive the application fee if it would cause “undue hardship” (see Harvard, for example).

Well then your best bet would be writing a bad-ass essay. And make sure to mention your financial struggles in a subtle way, that might get you through. And 1870 isn’t that bad, you could get into many places with that score.

CmonSon, the essay is exactly what I’m counting on! That, and teacher reqs. I thought about subtly adding in financial struggle, but then I thought they won’t like it cause it might come of as whiny. And yeah, you’re right, 1870 isn’t a bad score, it just sucks when you’re looking for a full ride hahaha
