I thought that I didn’t qualify to be categorized as a first generation student, but I have been told that I have. My dad got his Associate’s doing online classes, and my mom didn’t finish high school. People have told me that since my dad didn’t get a four-year (Bachelor’s) degree, that I am a first generation student. Does anyone know if this is true?
It depends upon the college.
The application does not ask “Are you first generation?” You put in your parent’s education, and the college will determine if it fits into its definition of first gen, and what bump, if any, it gives your application.
