OP never replied to any of your guys’ posts.

@Voltare, UCSC’s overall ranking is considerably higher than UCR’s. Also, the requirements are not the same. UCSC did not admit anyone under 3.0 (according to their website) this year, while UCR admits high 2’s all the time.

That said, the people here are being asshats. I know a solid handful of people that chose UCR over LA/Cal/SD because of research positions they already had. Good luck getting involved in biological research at La/Cal, its not going to happen.

There are some serious drawbacks to going to a hyper-competitive and crowded school.

@novalord2, UCSC did admit people with under a 3.0. 2.7% of the applicants with below a 3.0 were admitted. Admittedly, UCR had a similar number, 3.2%

I wouldn’t really consider that much of a difference. Don’t think you can really say either school admits bellow 3.0s all the time. Heck, both schools overall acceptance rates are exactly the same. 61.6%.

Anyway, this discussion is kinda pointless. OP never replied and the thread is over a year long. S/he most likely already made his/her decision.

This thread is over but I want to point out that I was talking about transfers.

For freshman, the admit rate dropped to high 40s this year.

if your health is at stake if you have to move away for Cal or UCLA then don’t do it. It’s a crazy decision the Cal and UCLA name is very reputable.

Cal has one of the best business programs there is, however the environment there it is stressful because the school is full of snobs, UCR is a good alternative I will pick UCR rather than UCLA if you want to focus on your studies. UCLA has far more distractions than UCR does. Only, you’ll miss some of the stuff that comes from does environments such as diversity and competitiveness, plus I believe those two schools do have somewhat more resources. One thing to consider is what kind of carrier are going to focus on, do you want to create your own business or you want to work for someone else? Here is a video you can watch to help you decide: The Power of Clarity Brian Tracy International on You tube. Best Regards due.

I went with UCR over UCLA and Berkeley and haven’t regret it since. I know UCR kids are not as gifted and smart as Cal kids but overall after finished summer school at ucr, I can say the school does offer a few good professors but unfortunately the Business program here is very big so class sizes are big compared to community college. I took two classes here at UCR over summer and got an A- and A+ in individual taxation and Financial Theories and Markets respectively. Some of the people that go to ucr look like they just been pulled out from the streets. However, some i mean a few are smart and competitive. For the most part, business kids are smart but not very hard working.
