AM I Crazy for Picking UCR over UCLA and CAL

Hey guys, Ive been suffering from a medical illness for 4 yrs now ever since high school. Would you pick UCR for Business over CAL's Political economy or UCLA since it's less stressful. I am thinking about doing that. Any opinion would be welcomed.

Guess it depends on your medical illness. Trying to accommodate it by picking a less-prominent school seems to be a bit extreme. You’ll endure a lot of stress in the real world, and in most cases you can’t just choose flight…

Definitely depends on your medical illness. Are you referring to some sort of anxiety disorder/panic attacks? The only reason I’m assuming that is because you referred to the stress of it. I think college is college whether you are going to UCR or UCLA. The change is going to be stressful, the studying, the papers, the deadlines, the social life- all of it. Have you visited UCR? In my opinion, it is pretty horrendous and doesn’t even compare to other UC campuses- any for that matter! I would be more stressed out looking at Riverside all day long than being at visual peace at CAL or UCLA.
Just don’t use your medical illness to prevent you from being all that you can and doing all that you can. It doesn’t have to be a crutch or something that always holds you back- you define yourself, not the condition.

This isn’t funny at all, this person seemed serious. You must not have any knowledge of mental illness. Some people have to be hospitalized, meds don’t work, they are still not sure of a diagnosis, or something else…This person is smart…it doesn’t matter where they go/went. I have heard recently that a neurosci student was kicked out of a UC, but was “hella smart.” They just struggled with the transition. They didn’t think the transition would result in failing and getting kicked out. One should prepare for the worst. I suggest go where you feel comfortable and where you think you can thrive and excel. You never know…

I don’t know about you but avoiding going to the best school to be “less stressful” sounds like a loser. I turned down UCLA, my dream school, for Berkeley because its mechanical engineering is ranked 15th versus Berkeley’s 3rd. Life will always be stressful. You must tackle it head on and conquer it. Don’t run away from your problems, especially this life-changing event. However, this is who I am. I am not you. You must make a decision that you are most comfortable with.

Why the hell would you go to UC Riverside over those two amazing schools? Regardless of your major and your condition, YOU’RE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE.

If you want to be with all the UC rejects, go to UCR by all means.

You guys that are calling him/her crazy are the idiots. He/she obviously knows how prestigious UCLA and Cal is, which only means that this illness is very serious. Some people just cannot handle or control extreme stress, which would deteriorate their health; leading to poor academics performance.

There is no point of attending UCLA or CAL when you’re going to feel sick all the time. A 4.0 at UCR is a lot better than dropping out of UCLA or CAL due to serious mental illness.
Besides, UCR has a really good Business program.

Yeah, because it’s so unreasonable to accept what initially seems like a daunting challenge and work harder than you’ve ever worked and accomplish a goal under extreme duress

Good luck with your never attempting anything out of fear of failure thinly veiled as preservation of health goals of 2013

Its a MEDICAL illness man, not a situation where a student is wanting to take an easy path by choosing a less prestigious school.
Why go to UCLA or CAL and have your health severely deteriorate, allowing you to accomplish nothing?
The only “challenge” this person should be trying to overcome is this medical illness, through a professional; not trying to tackle it by failing at UCLA or Cal.

How the hell is the CAMPUS horrendous? How is UCI’s uninspired concrete and grass style any worse than UCR’s uninspired brick and grass style? ***?

How is SANTA CRUZ a “middle” UC? It’s requirements are the same as UCR’s and it’s consistently ranked behind the other UCs. Not that ranking matters, but it sure does to you asshats on CC.

That was an extremely stupid decision. The difference between 3rd and 15th is basically nothing when there are THOUSANDS of schools competing. If UCLA was your dream you should of went there. And loser? Really? Only on CC. My god.

Wow, what a polite and insightful reply. You are the epitome of politeness and the master of civil discourse.

How the hell is Dr. Richard R. Schrock, Nobel laureate and professor at MIT, a reject? He graduated from UCR in 1967.

If people that go to UCR are UC Rejects does that make everyone else rejects too? Are Berkeley students Stanford rejects? And are UCSD students UCLA rejects? Tell me you elitist jerk, where do you go, Harvard?

voltare is right. be sensitive im a current ucla bruin and proud but always put health first. if one thinks that health may be afected by ucla n cal then dont go there. if it makes one feel better graf school will take such an explanation as very compelling and profound. go where one feels comfortable with. besides ucr is a uc nonetheless. still a wonderful school
