Am I crazy to want to triple major?

I posted this in the U of R forum and the Music Major forum so that I can get input of different people

Hello everyone, I will be attending U of R in the fall on a Richmond Scholar and everyone keeps telling me I'm crazy. My Richmond Scholar is for music, so I'll have to at least minor in music for that, but I want to major. I also love math and CS and want to major in them to. I would be coming in taking linear and data structures. Also, I will have credit/placement from APUSH (4), AP Calc BC (5), Multivar (they told me they'll waive the requirement), a CS class i took at the local community college, and hopefully Music Theory (Exemption only, i took the test this year). In addition, I can take the few gen eds I'll have left at the local community college in the summers. I was planning on starting on the track of all 3 majors and then dropping 1 later if it became too difficult. How hard is it to drop a major and am I truly crazy?

While Math / CS should overlap and that double is doable, the music triple is crazy. Music and CS combined alone would be pushing it. Even going in with lots of credit, it will be hard. You will also need to make sure your other CC gen-eds, if you end up doing that, match with the UR requirements (I believe you only need concentrations in the three areas, and music / CS will cover two, leaving one).

While you could start on the track you are planning and drop one of Math / CS at the beginning as they have some overlap, I think it would be smarter to pick one of Math/CS from the start. Personally I would vote CS for job prospects alone, especially since you said you were into both.

Keep in mind, you can always take math courses as your electives if you have extra room. You don’t need to major in something to cover all your interests, especially with the class freedom at UR.

For even considering this and looking at the credit you are walking in with, I think a double is very reasonable, but I don’t see the need for a triple. I would do a Music / CS double, and for your electives take some extra math in whatever interests you.
