Hi, I’m just starting my sophomore year of high school (I know, a little early to be worried right?) and I just want to know if I’m on the right track. In my freshman year, I took all regular classes except for honors world history. I did pretty well in that class, got a b+ 2 quarters and an a- the other two. I got an a or a+ in every other class every quarter. I finished with a 4.19 weighted and a 3.9 unweighted. This year I am double blocking math (so I can get ahead) and dropped out of ap U.S. history. I’m in no honors classes which is what I’m worried about, even though I’m ahead in math. Am I on a good track to get into Purdue, Indiana, or Miami (OH)? My class rank is 90 out of 561 by the way, which is only the top 16% of my class.
Sounds like you’re doing fine if you still have a chance to get into honors/AP your last two years. The issue at some high schools is if you don’t start out in honors classes the first two years, they can be hard to get into the last two years – not sure how that works at your school. Also, most schools will weight the honors/AP courses for purposes of grades and therefore class rank, so you will want those courses to continue to improve your rank so you don’t fall behind. I’m assuming you are taking a different history right now, just not the AP US History, and a foreign language. It is best to have all five core subjects for all four years.
