so the published yield rate for penn is 65%
now, 49% of the class is admitted through the ED plan [meaning that 100% of these students are required to matriculate at penn], leaving 51% admitted RD
therefore:
65 = 100(.49) + x(.51)

65=49+.51x
16=.51x
x=31.3725

so about 31.4% of the students admitted RD end up attending penn. that’s kind of low. maybe it’s true for other schools too…? anyway, just thought some might be interested

Well conceptually a really low RD yield rate would make sense. If ED is half the population and RD the other half, for the total yield to turn out to be 65% given that the ED half matriculated 100%, you'd need a pretty low RD yield to average it out to 65%-- which works as you have only two parts contributing of practically equal weight.

100 + 31.4 / 2 = around 65.

Slightly different way of saying the same thing I think.

people applying to Penn RD are probably also applying to all the ivy league's regular decision...so thats a big factor

Also, the ED matriculation rate is theoretically 100% but technically not because u can get out of a ED binding decision if u cant afford to go for financial reasons. Its still like 98%

Let's say the total # that enrolls is 2500 and the yield is 65%. This means that Penn has to accept around 3850 applicants total (3850x.65=2502). Of the 3850, lets say that 1250 were accepted in the ED round. This leaves 2600 accepted RD. So the RD yield is 1250/2600, or around 48%. Roughly 1 out of 2 who are accepted RD will enroll.

For bonus points, figure out what your math mistake was.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Isn't Barium what they put in enemas, BTW? I especially like your l33t spelling. I hear it's the big thing at Penn.

""your stupid" is like something my little sister would write."

Perhaps your little sister might also catch the sarcasm.

But since you didn't, let's go on with the name bashing! Hey, Percy, I heard chicks really dig guys with forum names that are similar to real life names. I foresee a lot of pussy coming your way in college.
