Am I doomed to CSUs and Merced? (Class of 2010)

So I feel as if my GPA has gotten me stuck at a CSU (I don't hate CSUs, I just know their reputations aren't as good as UCs in most areas) or Merced (I really just don't like Merced). I want to be a Computer Engineering/Science major.

Sophomore Year:
Modern World History B/B
Biology A/A
Algebra II B/B
Spanish A/A
Honors English B/B

Summer 2008:
Sociology B (Community College)

Junior Year:
AP USH B/B (but if I pass the AP test next month, it will change to A+/A+. I scored a 3, almost a 4 on a practice test yesterday)
AP Eng Lang B/B
Spanish II A/B
Math Analysis A/(No second grade yet, but it looks like a very low A-)
Chemistry A/(No second grade yet, again A- probably)
Ballet B/(No second grade yet, but she always gives Bs) (Community College)
Public Speaking (No grade yet, hopefully an A)

Summer 2009 Registration:
Statistics (Community College)
Clinic in Ballet Forms (Community College)

Senior Year Registration:
Physics
Theater History
AP Calculus (Not sure whether I'll be taking A/B or B/C)
AP English Lit
AP Environmental Science
AP Government
AP Microeconomics
Ballet (Community College)

My ECs include being president of the National Honor Society, CSF, and Key Club, summer volunteering at a hospital, a 5 month internship at an insurance agency (100 hours put in during the school year), a paid summer research internship designing a computer program, secretary of the Animal Protection Club, member of MESA, and several "Academic Excellence" awards.

SAT I: 600cr, 570m, 590w (1760).
SAT II: 600 Lit, 580 USH.

First generation college student, if that means anything these days.

So, am I stuck only getting into CSUs or do I have a shot at a few UCs? If so, which ones?

Why is it that you think you wouldn’t have a shot at any of the other UCs? You seem pretty strong to me. I definitely recommend applying to all of the ones you are interested in. Write a good essay and keep up your grades, I’m sure you’ll be fine.

At first I thought you were asking if you were doomed for getting into the CSUs and Merced, and I was like "You realize that everybody who remotely cares about school gets in, right? They have an 80%+ acceptance rate, and that 20% are the people who didn’t care about school. They are so desperate that they send acceptance letters to people who didn’t even apply. (Really, my brother got one.)

I notice that you left Riverside out. That school is what Merced will be in a few year. An advanced dump for all the losers. You can get in there easily. (Not saying you are a loser.)

You are way past that level. What is your GPA and rank?

I think that if you raise that SAT score a little, get in the top 10% ranking, and get 4s and 5s on all those APs, you are pretty much a lock for UC Santa Barbara, San Fransisco, Santa Cruz, etc. Everything except UCLA and UC Berekly, but you still have a shot at those. What race are you?

You’re not a guy, right? (Just wondering because I know some guys who take ballet.)

I guess I just read about how competitive all these schools are. My GPA is 3.74 weighted, 3.4 unweighted. Ranked 54 (10-12) out 590 (9.2%), and I’m in-state, only applying to CA schools. Thank you GoldFinch for being kind, it’s been one of those days.

Lol I must have read your mind, I posted my rank and GPA before seeing your post. I’m a girl, yes (applying to a male dominated major, I might add), and I’m white (which doesn’t seem to help in the college admissions, does it?). And thank you too, Saugus.

That doesn’t help, but at least you’re not Asian like me. What did you mean by 54 (10-12)?

9.2% is pretty good. How are you taking APs without having a higher weighted GPA?

What do you mean by, “How are you taking APs without having a higher weighted GPA?” I’ve only taken two AP classes so far.

And my school ranks students twice. Once using all of their grades and once using grades from sophomore year on. That is my 10th grade through 12th grade ranking. My ranking with all my grades is 78, 13.2%. Which should I be using?

bumpppp…
