What are my chances at UCs and CSU

Hi everyone, I made a thread about this back last summer, but now it's old and I dont want to bump it back up so I'll make a new thread. Basically it's just up-to-date data for me :).

Intended Major: Communication, but if college doesnt have it: Economics(or w.e else they call it at the school)

I took CC courses since beginning of this school year. While I know it doesn't factor in my GPA, it'll at least look better on my record :) and hopefully highlight interest in what I want to major in college.

Macroeconomics: B- :(
Currently in Microeconomics, and taking Business Law in spring quarter. So I'll have 3 CC classes done by end of senior year :).

Sorry for long big thread >.< I'm just nervous a little about the decisions and just want some opinions. Reality check will be helpful too :).

College list: ALL the UCs(yes ALL), CSU:(both cal poly, San diego state, and san jose state)

Bump :open_mouth: :P

Bump :10 chars

Did your school offer many APs?

what you’ve got going is high SAT scores which the UCs like. But your GPA is low and rigor looks weak. I’d say you’re looking at UCSC, UCR and UCM. A mid tier would not be impossible but seems unlikely this year with the reduced number being accepted.

I’d say you look good for the CSUs except engineering and business at C Poly.

ehh well our school is in the top 50 in the nation <.<. According to some ranking. Yes we have many APs but most of it is all the math and sciences. I was hoping for at least 1 mid tier UC, which is why im taking 3 CC classes by end of this year  to make me look better >.< and AP Micro and AP Macro arent offered at my school. No engineering major for any school. Oh if it helps we don’t have school ranking :).

I put communication as my major for all the schools that offered it, and economics for the others. Thank you for ur response :)

Bump :open_mouth: :D

CSU stands for Colorado State in Fort Collins right? I don’t know about the other one, but I’d say your in at Colorado, I applied there too! Not my top choice, but at this point, who knows?

uhh its california state university XD but thnx :P

your GPA is low compared to SAT scores. are you in-state? or out of state?

in state oops

your test scores are good but your gpa seems to be lower than what the high and mid UCs look for. id say you are a match for ucsc and riverside and in at merced
for the states id say you are in at san jose (tho unless you live in the area its hard to get in), a high match for san diego state and a slight reach at slo.

good luck!

Can i get some percentages too :)

ill be honest with percentages cause i dont think false hope is helpful when it comes to college acceptances.
id say its below 5% for berkely, LA, and san diego. they just dont accept 3.4 W gpas that often.
irvine, santa barbara-35%
davis-30%
santa cruz-60%
riverside-55-60%
merced-80-90%
san jose state-90%
SLO-20-25%
san diego-45-50%

wow o.o shocked on UCR and UCM, heard from those azn college tutoring places that im practically in for UCR UCM >.< and UCSC >.<. haha thnx  any other opinions will be greatly appreciated :).

i think you are in for sure with merced, i just never give 100% because hey its never for sure. riverside lately has been becoming a more academic based school. the average gpa is a 3.5 or 3.6 i believe but i think that with your test scores you should get in.

im just someone who always goes with the lower stats because i would hate to give someone false hope cause i had that earlier in my high school career and now am realising i might not get all the acceptances i want. i would recommend doing a profile on ************** they do percentages for you and it really helped me!

ColL-ege,Prowle-0-r

the site blocked that sorry

I’m hoping to get in 4/9 UC that way AT LEAST i got in a mid tier or high tier UC :). Any more opinions is greatly appreciated :)

you never know where you’ll be accepted to, i have a friend who got into UCSD last year with a 3.3 GPA and a 2200 SAT I score… i’d say that UCB and UCLA are probably high reaches at this point, but for the rest:

UCSD - low reach
UCI - match
UCSB - match
UCD - match
UCSC - in
UCR - in
UCM - in

for CSUs, probably all in except for Cal Poly SLO, it really depends on your major.

I would think that you could get into UC Merced, Riverside, Santa Cruz. I would be a little iffy about Irvine, San Diego, LA, Berkeley, Davis, maybe even Santa Barbara. I just know that these UC’s get more and more difficult to get into every year, and with the budget crisis, I’m sure they’ll cut down on the number of acceptances they dole out. On top of that, and keep in mind that I’m slightly paranoid, I can imagine that a lot of the kids who would otherwise go to Ivy league colleges or at least a pretty good private school elsewhere are going to opt for UC’s this year because of money issues. So, less space in acceptances, especially at the mid/top UC’s! And sorry, not familiar with CSU’s at all. :(

ooh thank you all for your opinions  I’ll chance back too if u guys want :D. Hehe i wish the mid tier UC and higher my luck wasn’t like playing russian roulette >.<. Any more opinions especially on the CSU’s :O.

By the way, the UC’s i put communication as the major(D,SB,SD) and the otheres were Economics or Business >.<. Would having finish Macro and Micro b4 college, help my chances if i put down my major as econ?
