Maybe. Yes. Sure. I think I am. So I’m a sophmore and let’s just say I haven’t done my best since freshman year. Absolute worst. There’s a mixture of C’s and B’s on my transcript right now. I’m ashamed but it’s all on me. As for Extra Curricular Activities, nothing. Fighting no motivation, I’ve tried drawing and even my guitar. Nothing. I’m struggling with social anxiety so any extra social interaction is a no no. However I’m trying to improve and work towards overcoming it, so I’m getting involved by taking baby steps. I chickened out at the last minute to join basketball and/or volleyball even though I really wanted to this year. Right now I’m thinking of even starting a dance club at my school next year because dancing is one of my forgotten passions but as always I’m scared shizless, also I’m looking for volunteering opportunities this summer because really helping people is another of my passions . My question is now, is it too late? Will I be able to get into a CUNY or SUNY (or just an average uni) if I really pick up my pace and change those B’s to A’s?. And lastly is anyone here going through the same struggle with social anxiety and the anxiousness over college? I’m really sorry if I offended you in any way with this really silly thread but I’m desperate
Help?
Nah it’s not too late to get into an “average uni” whatever that means. There are plenty of colleges that would accept you even if you keep on doing what you’re doing! You just have to decide what your goals are and then adjust your actions to reach those goals. Is the door shut on Harvard? Yea, probably. But there’s a whole big world out there and enough options to accommodate all sorts of different types of people. You just gotta decide if you wanna be a B/C student or an A/B type of student or something else entirely. None of these options are inherently better than any other it just depends on what you want to do.
Thank you so much for the reply. I am just worried and overwhelmed and you kind of gave me a hint to just relax and to stay focused on what I want to do at my own pace.
I don’t know a lot about SUNY, but you should be able to make some SUNY schools, even with C’s and B’s/ That said: try to do what you can to improve your grades.
While I don’t have social anxiety, I’ve honestly been more of a loner through high school, but I’ve still had a lot of fun and found activities I enjoy. So, you like dancing. Are there recreational classes in your area? Also, see if your school has any volunteering-type clubs, so that you can volunteer and also meet new people.
I went thru the same thing in highschool depression and anxiety, talk to a counsler or school pshycologist about what is gong on and they can try to accommodate to your needs. If you want to go to a decent college now is the time to improve your grades, admissions could be impressed with your upward trend in grades. Also think about effectively talking about your ordeal in college essay section. But be careful with wording and show how it has helped you becoming a test student. Also think about if you have any hooks depending on the hooks they allow alittle wiggle room. Good luck.
I feel the exact same way. i dont have social anxiety, but no motivation , same lol. i’m a sophomore in high school down in Louisiana and i overwhelmed myself as a freshman. so many people told me to push myself and take as many AP classes as possible and to just push it if i wanna make it big and that completely screwed me over lmao. i took two AP classes, AP psych, which i lived bc that’s what i want to major in, and AP human geography. THAT HAD TO BE THE WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE. i’ve come to the realization that as long as i do what i can to pass high school and still kinda look smart doing it, i’ll be fine. i might not get ALL of the scholarships, but i’ll get into college. Don’t drown yourself hun, just do what is good for you and your pace
Oh, wow, I feel your pain, man. While I haven’t really fallen behind academically, I’ve been getting quite worn out by a bunch of different things (including anxiety about peeps, school, family, and the like).
I’ve also, weirdly enough, been doing show choir this semester… and it’s really, really helped. YMMV, but I really think you should go for the dancing thing. Sometimes you just need an outlet before you can focus on academic commitments.
I’m glad that you’re making efforts to motivate yourself. You identified a problem and are trying to solve it, so that’s a good thing. Something to consider, though, is that by the time you ‘get motivated’ for school, it might be too late. Recognize that to reach your goal of enrolling in whatever college you want to enroll in, you have to apply yourself every day. You need to start NOW! Once you develop this habit for at least another year (junior year), those Bs and Cs of the past will not be an accurate reflection of what you’re capable of. You’ll have an easier time applying to those colleges, and who knows, maybe your anxiety will go away. (At least it’ll save it from getting worse)
Thank you everyone here for your comments and motivation, I know I’m not the only one who goes through this so thanks for sharing your side.I’m doing my best to juggle everything and improve.
I actually want to major in Pshcology also lol.
I woukd actually love to take more AP classes, right now I’m taking AP English. Didn’t have a choice, but my school only picked a certain amount of students to do the exam this year, so I’m doing the class but not the exam. Taking my time is the best option rn but I’m running out of time. Talking to a psycologist will probably be beneficial to me right now so I’ll take all that into account
Not to be snide – just would be good to know in case you want to use those words in an essay about your major or something when you eventually apply – it’s spelled “psychology,” “psychologist,” etc.
