Am I dreaming too big? Chance me at these school please!

Hey everyone, I'm currently a Junior at a VERY competitive high school.
My GPA at the end of Sophomore year was a 95.0 but I expect it to raise into the 97's by the time my junior year ends. The reason it is so low is because I did not take Honor Courses 8th and freshman year. (8th Grade courses come up on my transcript)
I just took the SATs this march and I am taking it again this May. I did not get the score back but during practices I usually get around 2150.
My school offers IB instead of AP and I have taken advantage of this by taking All-IB Courses.
Alright so here are my stats and please Chance Me! Here goes!

Rec's: Outstanding

I am a very strong speaker and I am very confident I can rock the interviews.
I also visted Yale, Brown, NYU and Columbia and took tours but my visits were never recorded, therefore i don't know if it will benefit me at all...

I'm not sure if I'm forgetting anything but yea. It's not that impressive but i can dream can't i? Please chance me and I'll be sure to chance you back. Thanks!

You’re probably good for George Washington. I don’t really know anything about the other schools except that no one has more than a 33% chance of getting in, even with a 4.0/5.0/2400.

Not that great. Take out EC’s like captain of the church basketball team because its not even somewhat impressive and nobody cares. It makes it seem that you doubt your actual resume so you put in fillers to make your application look more impressive, but it doesn’t work. And yes, I suppose we can all dream.

Your ECs look so laundry listed. Laundry listed as in, some of them are very plain/average, and alot of them seem like you did them only so you could get it on a resume. TASP does stand out though. You are definetly doing this to some extent to brag though, or you are…too modest “it’s not that impressive, but I can dream, can’t I?”. Whatever the reason is, if all of this is true, you look like a great, competitve candidate.

To start off, you aren’t a urm, and living in New York (insanely competitive area) will not help you.

I have seen people with much worse stats get into George Washington U, NYU, and Boston U. You are definetly in at those 3. I’d say UCLA is a match. Others are all reaches

I think you have a very strong application and at least a decent chance of getting into all those schools. Below are my guesses.
Yale University - no
Columbia University - yes
Brown University - yes
NYU - yes
Boston University - yes
Cornell - yes
UCLA - yes
Binghamton University - yes
George Washington University - yes
Emory University - yes

I would also suggest that you check out [■■■■■■■■■■■■■ - Home](http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■.com) and see other students who got into those schools.

in-state so higher chance for columbia but even so it isn’t very impressive. guess it boils down to if u can manage 750 ish on at least 2 of ur sat II’s and ur teacher recs

thanks so much everyone. this helped so much =]
anyone else have a response?

Poseidonj i know what you mean but I every one of those because I truly wanted to do them…i could have done more but I didn’t primarily because I wanted to make a bigger difference in the clubs and organization that I was already a part of. And what does TASP mean? I’m not too familiar with it.
Also, I thought i was nowhere in competition with NYU or UCLA. Wow that’s really wonderful! Do you really think I can get in those?

But my real goals are.
Brown University and Columbia. Because I don’t think I have a chance at Yale and Cornell is too quiet for me.

TASP is the cornell summer program, Telluride Association Summer Program, unless your program is something different.

OO well I’m not sure if the program I am doing is TASP…but you seem to know a lot. Are you a college counselor or something?

You’re not doing TASP. It’s something completely separate from the Cornell summer program, and I’d be wary of advice from someone who gets the two mixed up.

Don’t take what people say on this site too seriously. Most of us are in high school.

^^If you are instate you don’t have a good chance at Columbia, its not a state school, its a private school, its actually harder if you live in NY to get in, because they want geographic diversity…

Well obviously armistice, Haha I just wanted to know what you guys thought my chances are.

speaking as a senior who just went through this process you NEVER know what to expect & i dont think anyone is a shoe in everywhere. its always good to have a state school or two as a back up. and make sure to put some passion in your essays that always helps.

seriously the best advice, after being through the college application process is:

LEARN TO LOVE YOUR SAFTEY…

Anyone else have anything?

bumpppppppppppp
