I am an American studying abroad in Europe (high school). I am currently in my junior year and plan to go back to the U.S. for university and permanent residency after graduating. My parents are not American citizens; however, have paid taxes and made income during the time that we were living in the U.S. Am I still eligible for financial aid given the fact that my parents are not American citizens?

Yes, you are eligible for financial aid as an American citizen. You would fill out FAFSA which would make you eligible for federal money, and then follow the directions that each college has for financial aid. Do keep in mind that few schools guarantee to meet need and that the FAFSA just clears you for federal funds and gives an EFC which is the least amount you have to pay before getting any federal money. The more generous schools will also require PROFILE.

Your parents may still have filing tax returns requirement if they are LPR (Legal permanent residents)
