Well i was born in the U.S. but my parents moved to greece and we have been living here since.I have a SSN,my parents are us citizens. My question:Can i apply using FAFSA for federal financial aid(year of high school graduation:2010).If yes what kind of documents will i need since i am not a traditional applicant? Thanks so much!

All you will need is your birth certificate to prove that you are a USA Citizen. After that, it doesn’t matter where you live for eligibility for federal financial aid.

Yes you can apply using FAFSA. Congratulations, you will be eligible for federal aid. Do your parents file US tax returns?

No they don’t .However they file tax returns in our country and they used to when they were in the U.S.Can this be a problem. Thanks for all the help guys!

It is easier to complete the FAFSA if you are working with information from your most recent US Federal Income Tax Return. If you don’t have a US tax return, you will need to convert all foreign income, etc. into US$ when you enter the information in the FAFSA website.

Your parents should consider filing the US Tax returns. A sizable amount of foreign earned income is automatically excluded from taxation, and there are other adjustments that account for foreign taxes paid on that income. The paperwork is more annoying than difficult, and it will make the IRS happy. I did it for years when my family was living abroad. You can read up on it at FAQs for Foreign Income http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq13-3.html
