Am I going in the right direction?

So far, for my essay, I was thinking of writing about one academic/extracurricular event in my life and how it changed me (by making me more confident in myself and in reaffirming what I want to pursue as a career). Then I have like one sentence explaining that this experience led me to pick a couple of the extracurricular activities I'm most passionate about...

Would this be OK because I know that you shouldn't write a "laundry list" of EC's (even though it's a sentence) and that you should just talk about yourself... Then again, they ask for an experience... Also, I never like to put "I" in an essay, but I find it hard not to in this one... Would it be OK?

Thanks!!

an “I” is FINE on college essays! Really, it is, because what are we supposed to do in college essay? talk about ourselves. Ergo, the use of I is basically mandatory!

and if it’s just a couple activities, I think it will be okay as long as it doesn’t turn into that laundry list.

Thanks for the reassurance! :)
