I'm taking:
Asianlan 304 (4cr)
Chem 230 (3)
BE 300 (3)
ECON 102 (4)
BIT 200 (1.5)
ACC 271 (3)

How hard are these courses, especially the bschool courses? Looks like i'm gonna be living at the UGLi.

I don't know about ACC 271 and BE 300, I'll be taking those next semester also. I did take BIT 200 last semester, and it was a massive amount of work for a 1.5 credit class.

Good luck, it looks like you will be in for a brutal semester.

I don't know about "shooting yourself", but I don't know many that could handle that course load. All of the B-School courses could be considered difficult or time-consuming simply because of the curve and the caliber of the students you will be in class with.

Being able to handle the course load aside, I think you are really selling your self short in that you will have less time to: explore what the business school has to offer outside of class; develop leadership skills by taking on heavy extra-cirricular responsibilities; and purse your interests, hobbies, and passions otherwise.

You would honestly be nuts to keep this schedule (and I'm sure an advisor would tell you the same). Caveats of my advice...I'm assuming you don't enjoy sleep; you have a clone; and you have no interest in the opposite (or same) sex or friends. (A touch of sarcasm)

ENJOY!

Well, last semester, I took:
Orgo II double Honors (5 cr)
Math 216 (4)
GTBooks 192 (4)
Bio 225 (3)
MCDB 300 (2, but I spent 20+ hrs/wk in the lab)

I still partied 2-3 nights a week, had a volunteer job, and was involved in 5 ecs. Do you think that this schedule is harder than the previous one?

And, jnpn, what is BIT 200 like?

If you think you'll be comfortable with business coursework, such as the accounting course, then the schedules should be comparable. Were you able to pull a decent GPA with this schedue and take on worthwhile responsibilities in your ECs? If so, I say go for it. If not, take into consideration that GPA will be important for recruiting as will substantial accomplishments within your jobs/ECs and adjust your schedule accordingly.

Always some weekly assignment like setting up a database, solving a business problem with excel, or playing around with some type of open source software and writing a paper on it. You read a couple IT books/manuals. You frequently (pretty much daily) bookmark IT articles or websites. You manage a blog with a group of people. There is a final in the end. As with ACC 271, half the people get B- or below, but you probably already heard about that.

they have a final for BIT 200? what kind is it? like m/c? essay? hands on?
6 finals will NOT be fun.

maguo1, you are doing too much. Unless you did well with your last course load (GPA wise), I would sincerely cut down on the classes so that you can excel in them. ESPECIALLY if you are planning on grad school. A tough course load looks great for sure, BUT it isn't worth hurting your GPA.

P.S. I thought ACC271 was one of the most boring classes I have taken at this university (some people love it though, they usually end up doing that kind of stuff for a living though)

My main suggestion would be to not take Econ 102, unless it is a mandatory requirement for some program you're in. At least for something like an Econ major, 101/102 are only advisory prerequisites to higher level courses, so you can skip them if you really want to (might need to make up the credits later with upper level classes, depends on why you're taking the course). Since you seem to be pretty competent with math and business, I don't think you'd have that much of a problem if you just waited a semester or two and started up with 400 level econ.

All MC with lots of trick questions. Average grade was low 70s I think.

Why are you taking 18.5 credits if you already think the courses will be so difficult?

well, i'm trying to finish two majors in 4 years. i worked out my schedule so that i either do 18.5 credits this semester or I do 19.5 credits the semester after that. right now i'm doing 18.5 and then 15.5 the semester after.

What about spring and summer classes; It appears that you are planning on Bschool/ CMB, which should be very doable in 4 years especially since the BBA program is 3 yrs now instead of 2. Stuff like Pchem, genetics, biochem can be taken spring/summer to make your life a little easier during the year...

yeah I really want to, but there are several problems:
1) I'm poor. Even with scholarship, I'm still broke. Summer classes are like 4k which I don't have.
2) I got travel plans next summer.
3) I want to take the MCAT at the end of next summer, so I want to have Pchem and Biochem done before then.

I guess if push comes to shove, I'll do that. Right now, I think I'm gonna stick with 18.5 credits and if it is too tough, I'll drop Econ 102 and find some other way of fitting it in. I'm also gonna see if I can get the Bschool to let me take BIT in winter 08.

Did you take the macro ap?

unfortunately not. now i really wish that i did or i had taken 102 freshman year.

BIT 200 actually isn't that hard, depending on your professor. Walls was very lenient. Just dedicate one day out of the week for it. There is a weekly blogging assignment that's checked at the end. It just tests your ability to write about an interesting topic of your choice while incorporating HTML. It's supposed to be spread out so that you do one entry a week, but our team decided to do all of it the last week before it was due. Even then it wasn't too much. But do not follow that example :).

BE 300 is the class that always changes in difficulty. It wasn't hard for us, but the juniors before us struggled. Then again, it's all relative (based on curve). So if it's hard, chances are everyone thinks so. If it's easy, same thing. So same grading curve either way.

ACC 271 is easy if you RELIGIOUSLY look over the practice test before your exam.

ECON 102 depends on the professor. I thought it was quite easy, but I learned nothing in it.

OP, could you maintain a 3.6 GPA with last semester's load? You would need about that from Michigan for med school. You seemed to have a really rigorous load. I am interested because my son will be applying to Michigan this fall.

Nope, I had a 3.5 GPA. I really slacked during finals, which did me in. I had 4As and a C going into finals and ended up with 2As and 3Bs.

However, I am fairly confident that I will do better. I improved from a 3.1 first semester and I am constantly finding areas where I can improve --like not partying every night of finals week and not going to a final drunk (actually, I guess it didn't matter cuz I got the 3rd highest grade on that final).

Best of luck to your son!
