Am I on the Right Track? Barnard, Kenyon, Emory (Chance Back!)

I’m a sophomore and I’m really worried about my chances of getting into college??? I’m not interested in most of the Ivy’s just because I don’t feel as though they’d be a good a fit for me, but I would love to Barnard, which is on or nearing that level of competition. I had a bad Freshman year due to being awful at math, esp Geometry, but my gc keeps reassuring me that it’s ok to have one bad grade freshman year. Still, Barnard is super competitive, and I’m worried about my chances.

If you chance me/give me advice, I’ll be sure to do the same to you!

I LOVE Barnard as well!! It’s such an amazing school. I think you have a great chance! You’re chances will increase if you ED. Barnard also really cares about your essays, so make sure you spend a lot of time on those. Best of luck!

I’m no expert, but to call you an amazing candidate is an understatement! From someone who also freaks out about their GPA, yours is great! You clearly have writing talent, so I would continue to hone in on this (perhaps apply for publication opportunities at larger newspapers and literary magazines). Your mom is right about UPenn (IMO you would probably be a competitive candidate), and you should look into the Kelly Writer’s House as both a means of recruitment and a way to understand the Penn arts culture. Best of luck!
