Am I on the right track?

Hello everybody! I’m a white male from wake county in NC. I want to go to UNC and am wondering if I am on the right track strictly with my grades and classes. Freshman year I could only take 2 honors classes but just took all academic and hopefully making a few Bs at a private school won’t hurt me too badly. I transferred to my public school after freshman year though.

Freshman year:

English- A
Math- A first semester, B second semester
Biology- B
World Geography- A
Theology- A
Spanish- B
Computer- A
Health and PE- A

Sophomore Year (so far)
English 2 Honors- A
Math 3 Honors- B
AP Environmental Science- A
Chemistry Honors- B
Sports Marketing- A
Independent Study- A
AP World- B
Spanish 2- A

I was wondering if I need to do the IB program to get into UNC or could I take 7 APs, 2 IB electives and rest honor classes for Junior and Senior year and still have a good chance to get accepted. Does UNC really love and favor IB or do they view AP and IB equally? And what GPA and SAT/ACT should i have to feel somewhat confident? Thanks!

As long as you take AP or IB classes, I do not think that one is truly favored over the other. Most schools only offer one of the two, for example, my school only has AP. AP classes seem well known and can definitely get you some college credit if you do well on the exams.
Try to get at least a 2000+ SAT or 30+ ACT to feel safe in that area.
You’re only a sophomore, so I would keep putting forth great effort and not stress yourself out yet. You have all of junior and senior year to truly worry about college. Good luck!

Thank you!
