Am I on track for Ivies, Duke, Wake, and Vanderbilt?

Thank you for taking the time to read this everybody; I really appreciate it :) ! I am a sophomore, and I am starting to think about colleges-I would like to receive others' opinions on how I stack up or if I am even on the righ track. I posted a thread earlier, but I would like to better post my resume.

I am interested in biomedical engineering and would like to become a patent attorney. I am looking at some Ivies (Brown, UPenn, Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth), Duke, Vanderbilt, MIT, Hopkins, Wake, and Chapel Hill.

I have NOT taken the SAT yet (will take in fall). My mom went to Brown and I have done two summer camps there. I am 100% Greek (child of immigrant) living in the South.

Class Rank: Tied for first (39 total kids in grade) in rigorous private school

Passions/Interests:

Inventions: I have about 20 inventions that I whipped up, and will try to work to begin patent process this summer.

Debate: I just completed my first year of debate, and I loved it! I set a school record for best debut, have continued to hold best overall record in LD, and appear to be best LD debator in school.

Medical Assistance: This summer, I am doing an extensive volunteer oppurtunity/internship where I shadow doctors and work with underpriveleged individuals.

Basketball: I have been Captain + MVP for back-to-back seasons now and have grown greatly in the game. I impressed a Brown scout last year while doing a camp, and I would be open to playing in college (already have one scholarship lined up).

Clarinet: I have played clarinet for over six years now, and enjoy it greatly. I write my own music sometimes, but I just love the sound of this instrument.

Church Service: I have been altar assistant for three years now in my Church, participate in youth group projects, and will have leadership oppurtunity next year.

If you took the time to read all of this, thank you so much and tell me what you think! :)

you’re going from algebra II to AP Stats?

Yes, I take honors Algebra II, and will be taking AP Stats and Honors Precalculus next year. Thanks!

The invention stuff sounds like a really good hook.

I know I said this in the Wake forum, but you know Wake does NOT offer ANY engineering degrees.

If you can do all what you plan, you should be in good shape for all but the top Ivies (they are crap shoots for everyone). Good luck.

I got a bit confused about Wake and engineering because I read that Virginia Tech and Wake had some sort of bioengineering partnership going on…but I am most likely terribly wrong, as that was several years ago.

If I went to Wake, I would just go pre-med or pre-law, at least that’s what I think right now. I realize that this changes my career path, but I’ve loved Wake since the fourth grade for several reasons.

Anyway, thanks rockerguyasj! I appreciate the keen engineering advice and kind comments! :)

Stop posting chances threads. Live your life. No college will admit a recluse.

I’m not a recluse, and is it illegal to post a chance thread? I like to hang out with friends, play b-ball, and think up new inventions in my spare time…what do you like to do? ;)

anybody have some extra advice?

I am a sophomore also, your stats are really strong
I’m starting to feel like I have no chance against you haha
Keep up the good work!

Can you chance me also?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/696982-chance-rising-junior.html

golfer111, I appreciate your kind input! I would be happy to chance you back. :)

hey guys, is there any good advice/evaluation for me? I feel that my passion seperates me from the pack, but what do YOU think? Thanks! :)

Do well in the SAT. Write an inspiring essay. Then you are schweet.

Thanks Elvito, you’re advice was short, sweet, and to the point! :)

bump…bump

Your chances are good IMO for the schools you’ve listed. I guess what’s crucial now is that you prepare for your SATs. The invention stuff sounds good but of course more detail about that should be written on your resume.

Your rigorous private school didn’t offer advanced courses? Well at least you’re going to take some next year.

Good day, fellow Greek!

Without SAT or ACT scores, it is impossible to chance you properly. Sorry!

Good day, my fellow Greek! :)

I know, it is hard to chance without actual SAT/ACT score…I’m thinking that my best score could be around 2250, but I’m just guessing and hoping at the same time…I would be thrilled to get that on my first try!!!

Yeah, my rigorous school offered no AP or Honors courses to freshmen, which is unfortunate.

I went to the best school in my city, but I’ve moved to another city and attend a much harder school-hope that this helps!!! :)

I think as long as you do pretty good on your SAT or ACT then you’re in great shape. I’d recommended taking a few SAT practice tests before you take it the first time so you can get a good feel for it.

So when you say you’ve invented some things, do you mean like actual practical items? Or some garbage a-pencil-with-2-erasers-crap that you see on infomercials? That sounds harsh.

Thanks rk33, I will definitely work on the SAT during the summer.

Also, my inventions aren’t ALL garbage, I think that 12-15 are actually useful as of right now (I do have some more random things because of brainstorming), and they range from replacement organs to car technology. Hope that this helps!
