My guess is that you hate Harvard for much the same reasons my kids hate Harry Potter. They know absolutely nothing about Harry Potter - they haven't read any of the books or watched any of the movies - but they just got turned off by all the hype around it. As a result of their boycott, I know nothing about Harry Potter either, but given how popular it is, I suspect they're missing out on something. The good news is that, just as there are many other good colleges for you to apply to, there are many other good books and movies for my kids to read and watch.

Lol AP freak- I must be completely colleged out because when I read your Yankees are the best ever statement, I saw Yalies are the best ever instead, and I was like "!!!!!!?!??!!"

I agree with the anti-hype campaign. I was the only one in my peer group interested in Harry Potter prior to the movies. Then came the movie onslaught and the immense hype. I have to say that they ruined HP for me. anyways, I'd probably like HYP more if they had less HYPE.

Yeah about the whole harvard being corrupt. i mean that only as the fact that it's an old institution so it;s always politics like who keeps what jobs and such. My aunt used to be a lawyer for harvard for a long while and she got laid off a few years ago and she tells me that quite a few other people, both teachers and other administrators and such, have been fired as well. And what she says is that a lot of it has to do with who likes who personally and whatnot (but apparently the ones they dont like are the ones who were getting the job done well). which is in one sense too bad, but in another sense, unavoidable anywhere.

Sounds like working at Harvard is a lot like working pretty much everywhere else.

oh c'mon that's a cop out if I ever saw one. I feel the same way, but if they overhype in an encouraging way then you shouldn't not attend just to spite.

Teachers getting fired? If they are not tenured, their contract does not get renewed. That happens to the majority of non-tenured faculty. They go on to other jobs at other universities. That's not the same as being fired. It's called academic life. If they are tenured, they can only be fired for cause; otherwise, Harvard would risk being censured by the American Association of University Professors. It's a major deal.

Here's a new spin. I began to hate Harvard when I went there for a summer. I took a demanding years worth of Chemistry in a crammed 8 weeks. My relationship with my parents went through an extremely rough spot. And my sister and I have never been the same since I came back. So you can see how much I hated it after it was all over. I had to come back and deal with my family and realized that I had ruined my GPA for college and totally forgot about its advantages. Slowly after I got past the problems I started to realize what I had gained and it far outweighed what I lost. I really like Harvard now and can honestly say that I'll do college the right way this time around because of it. And I hope I get in to Harvard too and won't be mad if I don't.
