Am I screwed even if I apply ED?

Eeeeek. Any advice? Do I have a chance?

Oook....disclaimer: I switched schools in between freshman and soph. yr, and I went from a really easy school, to a really hard one.

GPA: W: 4.3-ish UW: 3.8-ish
But this may go down after this year. I got straight B's (ok....B+'s) for my AP classes....which I have a feeling is going to hurt me....a lot.
School is ranked pretty well in NJ.

ACT: 30 (33 E, 32 M, 31R, 25 S (gah))
Retaking in Sept....hoping for 32+

APs:
(junior)
USH - 3 (fml)
Bio - 5
Econ - 4
Eng -4
Calc AB - 3 (fml)

SAT II:
720 - bio M
730 - math II
should I retake....?

ECs:
Academic League - co-captain
Science Olympiad - secretary (11), pres (12)
Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Society)- i'm really involved. I give people their tutors and keep track of the tutoring service we offer.
Volunteer at local medical center 120+ hours
Math League - no officer positions (not offered)....just go and take tests.
In a sports club I founded with a friend
Orchestra - I've been in various orchestras for all 4 yrs in HS (well....3 thus far, will be 4 once senior yr is done)

Summers:
Researched/Observed in labs in both UPenn (9, 10) and state school (11)

Jobs:
worked in lab over the summer - like 2 weeks, I had to go out of country for an emergency
Kumon- 4 months

Awards:
1st Rgnl for Cell Bio science Olympiad (11)
Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award (11)
Science National Honors Society?

JHU (ED-ing) - neuroscience
I'm south asian, btw

Help?

Nope. Go for it. You never know.

bumpppp…anyone else?

i like the balance of your ecs.

really nail those essays. you have enough skills/talents/experiences to have a great pitch as to why hopkins will be a great fit.

your stats may hold you back. really shoot for a high ACT. it def hurts that you had 3.3 your last year, but it’s out of your hands. make the best out of what you have left to improve. if your rank is still high at your school you may not be affected too badly, but you really need solid ACTs.

also, choose LOR writers wisely.

should I take a third SAT II? (or retake the ones I have taken?)

How about trying to focus on ACT. However, if you want to try SAT IIs, I would just try to retake the ones and do better (IMO).

There’s a twist.

I didn’t know I had to send in my old SAT I scores too if I sent in SAT IIs.

Either

  1. I send in just my ACTs.
    or
  2. I send it SAT IIs/ACTs, and my SAT I score of 1890…now, I’m definitely screwed even if I apply ED.

Well given the fact that your ACT science doesn’t look pretty. Plus your have score choice for the SAT

I know my ACT science isn’t pretty…I was kinda stupid and actually READ the problems and ran out of time (uh, if i can defend myself, it was my first time taking it w/out practice).

JHU doesn’t accept score choice. Therefore, if SAT II goes in, so do SAT Is. I think the only thing I can do is work on my ACTs and pray that it’ll go up significantly (esp. the science, which is weird, because I’m a AP Science-freak…)

Read science Journal articles. Best preparation for the ACT Science. Got a 34, here.
