Am i screwed? Urgent

Here's the deal: due to a low selection of classes and some classes not being available i was planning to take 4 courses (17 units) at 3 different community colleges. (i put these as my planned courses for spring on my UC applications).

However, one of the classes at the most distant college filled up and has a full waitlist ( this college is about an hour and a half drive from my home). the class that became full was a prerequisite course too.

Am i screwed now that i cant take the class and will only be taking 3 classes (12 units) next semester???

Major: Chemistry

Schedule for spring '11:
-Honors multivariable calculus (5 units)
-Physics (4 units)
-Honors second tier Humanities (required for TAP) (3 units)

the class i was unable to get was:
-Organic Chemistry I (5 units)

Also, there are no more prereq classes i can take (i only need math/phys/ochem) and i will have completed the honors program with the humanities course, and i already have IGETC completed.

What should i do!? i have searched every school within 50 miles from my home and the CCs either dont offer the class or it is full!

-Also if this helps, my main school does not offer O-chem so could i use that as an excuse?

Thanks for everyone who can help me out!!

That’s a difficult situation… Explain it to the UCs; if you did everything you could to get into the class but it was still full, and it isn’t even offered at your main school, I don’t see why they can’t admit you. Chemistry is not impacted, right? If it is not, you likely don’t HAVE TO complete all pre-reqs prior to transfer. It’s probably ok, if you’re missing one.

I talked with an admissions agent for UCLA and they said for non impacted science majors, you need to at least complete four courses to be competitive. (My friend was admitted last year with IGETC not completed and 5/11 prereqs completed).

I just don’t know how i would go about explaining this/where i could explain this.

also, should i take another class to look like i’m not slacking this semester?

Great idea to take another class. This will look good, especially if you take another demanding class. Call your target UC campus (UCLA?) and ask how/where to explain this.

Explain it in the update in January.

Maybe you can petition for the class, I remember in my huge sociology class there were literally 50 more people waiting to get in so the teacher let the people who wanted to wait, sit in the back until people started to drop out. 5 people got in with lottery and about 10 people decided to wait and they all eventually got in the class. And later on, there were a lot of empty seats left, like 10 more people could have gotten in if they had waited. So, you should just ask/beg the teachers.

I’m in the same situation(sort of).I can’t get Organic Chemistry at my CC so I’m hoping in the January update there is a way that they could understand my situation.best of luck! :)

This still leaves me with a question. I do not want to only take 12 units, and i have completed IGETC and i cannot take any more major prep courses. what should i do??? Take a random class???

Go to some full OChem classes and stay, JUST stay for the first weeks and show the profs you want to get in. eventually you will.

You can try to take o-chem at csulb, csuf, or UCI (from Orange County right?) through programs like this:
