I got a D at general chemistry during the fall. So I was planning to repeat the class during spring 2013, but unfortunately it is so hard for me to get into the class because of the late registration date, but I don't know if I can add the class or not since the school start at 2/4.
So should I put chemistry on my transfer academic update class during spring 2013? And does the D count as inside of 60 units or it doesn't count?

It is the grade that I got during the fall 2012.
Should I just update in the academic update to let the UC know?
I just have question about whether should I put the repeat chemistry on my plan list for spring 2013 since I can not assure that I can get the class.

You can put the class down on the update, but if you’re not able to enroll then you need to inform them immediately so that you don’t risk getting rescinded later. What’s your major? And have you tried looking for classes at other CCs? If it’s not available at one CC and it’s an important pre-req I would try to take it somewhere else. It’s not ideal, but it’s what a lot of us in CC have done if we really need a class and it shows the UCs that you’re determined and serious about transferring. If that’s not an option just sit through the class for as long as you can even if the professor says they won’t add you. At some point enough people will drop that the roster will be below capacity and there are usually administrative ways to get added to a class even past the add deadline.

Looking back at CC now there really was never a class that I really needed that I absolutely couldn’t get. It definitely wasn’t always easy, but it did work out with persistence.

I already tried for two community college, I check up everyday to get into the wait list, but there are just no one dropping the class. For other community college, my other class time is at same time with the class. My major is computer science. I got D at this class, because I was sick for a whole week, and we have a exam which is like the half of the whole grade since we only have two exams, I begged for a week for professor to do a make up test. But he said he never does a make up. So I have a 0 on a exam which led me to a D. Even though I got good grade on my second exam. This class is not on my major preparation class for most of the school I applied, except UCSD.

I doubt much will change in terms of the wait list until at least a few days before class starts. If both classes start on different days then attend both. If they both start on the same day, Feb 4th, then email both professors and explain your situation, let them know how serious you are about adding the class and try and alternate between the classes showing up to each one. They should be understanding and you should get a feel for which class has a better probability of you getting added then focus on that one. Just stay persistent, not a lot is going to change until the class actually starts so all you can do is wait until then and try your best to be present at each so that the professors know you really want to add them.

Do you drive and live in a major city? You might want to keep looking for a third CC. I’m not sure where you are, but if you’re in socal area there should be at least more than 2 CCs in a 30 mile radius. If you’re in norcal, in the bay area, you have a great transportation system, so you should be able to try a few CCs there. It’s not ideal, but I had to commute 30 miles in LA traffic to take Gen Chem II one term. It made for an hour commute some days, but I’m glad I did because I wouldn’t completed my pre-reqs on time without doing so. I guess, if worse comes to worse at least it’s not a major pre-req for most of the UCs you applied to, so it isn’t going to hurt your chances too much.

So I still should put on the update and try my best to get the class? Right?? Then I will
Another question, since I got D, this is not count toward my UC transferable credit, right?
So as an alternative, I should get a class that with 5 units in order to meet the 60 units requirement ? Right
Thank you

“A grade of D (include plus/minus) in a transferable course will count toward the number of transferable units you have completed. However, you must earn a grade of C or better when completing the transfer eligibility course pattern described in Minimum Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students. And, in most cases, grades of D do not satisfy major or general education requirements.”

List the class on the update and try your best to get it. If not, update the UCs of your changed schedule.

I have a solution for you. Uc berkeley extension offers general chem online. It is accepted at all uc campuses. It starts with an X. Those X courses are undergrad level courses.
Also You should be able to take rhis class at any UC over the summer. This year the UCs are allowing you to take classes over the summer and it will count.

Thank you.
Mine is the general chemistry 1 with lab.
I can’t be attend at San Francisco, so since they will accept until summer.
Is that means that I can repeat the chemistry class during summer if I can’t get it during the fall?
Thank you

Yes, it counts toward the 60 transferable units. Once you repeat the course, the previous grade and its units are dismissed. So it’s not like you’ll be getting double units.

So before I repeat the chemistry. Should I put IGETC completed or not completed?
Because this chemistry class is my last Igetc class.
Thank you !!!
