For the recommendations, it seems that MIT wants teachers who know you well. Unfortunately, my Junior year humanities teachers didn't really like/know me (I got a B in US history, and my English teacher doesn't know me very well since I rarely spoke to her). So I asked my Econ teacher of this year to write a rec. Although, he's only known me for 3 months, we get along very well and I talk to him pretty often. So, have I screwed myself over by doing this? =(.

I wouldn't worry about it. I think you made the best choice you had. Personally, I doubt it could make a difference, although it could, but that's not worth worrying about.

MIT doesn't suggest junior year teachers because they specifically want junior year teacher recommendations. They just make that suggestion because often junior year teachers remember a student better than sophomore year teachers and know a student better than senior year teachers. But it's totally up to you -- if you feel that the econ teacher knows you well enough to write a recommendation, MIT won't question that decision.

I used a sophomore year biology teacher and a junior/senior year history/psychology teacher for my MIT recs. It was fine.
