Does MIT have a policy against sophomore year teacher recs?

See title above

No, there’s no restriction against it. I think they prefer upper-level teachers simply because they’ve taught you more recently - but if you have a sophomore teacher who could give you an awesome recommendation, that’s well worth it ^_^

Nope! The two most important criteria for recs are “specific and storied.” A sophomore year teacher who can elaborate on your merits and character with supporting detail and specific stories is much better than a junior/senior year teacher who can’t say much about you beyond your academic performance (which is already available to Admissions on transcript anyway).

I actually used a sophomore teacher’s evaluation in my application.

He did, however, teach my physics class in my senior year also, but the recommendation was based on the other classes as it was the “humanities” recommendation.

What I’m trying to say - as Jeff said - is that it should be fine! =)

no; pick whoever will write most compellingly on your behalf
