Am I starting this too late?

I am creating a financial education club at my school. I am a junior in high school and I have finally found a window in which to begin this club I have been planning for months. I have truly discovered an interest and passion in economics and finance, and don’t want to appear to colleges like I just put this on there just to beef up my app and make it seem like I’m trying to sugarcoat it as a wow factor. Regardless I am starting this club, but I don’t know if it will be detrimental to my app since I’m starting it the middle of junior year.

It wouldn’t be a negative, but will not be much of a positive either unless you can show something amazing that this club does in 6-9 months before you apply to colleges.

If you feel it doesn’t add to your application, leave it off. You are in control.

Starting the club shows leadership and it is a positive contribution to your school. So it will look good, as long as it isn’t the only thing you’ve done in the four years.

It will be a positive and I would use it in your application. Great for you finding something you are passionate about! Obviously, students can find new interests throughout high school. I agree it shows leadership.

Whether to include it on your college apps or not may depend in part whether the club actually “gets off the ground” or just flounders & dies. Although a lot can be learned from failure. It could be the foundation for a good essay.

“Starting a club” is fairly neutral; it will neither impress or repel adcoms.

Do it because you want to do it. It sounds like a really good idea for a club to me.

Don’t worry about what universities will think of it. It probably won’t make much difference to your university admissions. However, you will have had the opportunity to try it out.

Financial education?

OP, ask yourself what expertise you offer. Just starting a club is no “it.” Just noting “founder” isn’t leadership. What will you do? But nor is it such a negative that you should leave it off.

Adcoms can wonder what impact this really had.
