Am I strong enough for Barnard? Top 15 transfer

Hello,
I currently attend a top 15 very sciencey, pre med school notorious for grade deflation (you may have guessed it). I really really dont like the environment I'm in. I hate the city, I hate the people, I hate the preprofessional, unnecessarily competitive nature of the school. I really would LOVE a smaller, all women's environment in a great city. I love Barnard's programs and I just really really want to go there after I visited not too long ago. I have a list of other reasons but I am really just generally unhappy at my current school. I already have a history of depression and I feel completely unmotivated in my environment. I spoke to seniors and they too relate to my story. NO senior I spoke to looked back and was happy with the school. I really dont want to be like them.

Seems like it’s worth a shot, add some others you like too as it sounds like you’ve given it enough time but it’s not working out.

Thank so much. I am def going to give it a try. I chickened out before because an advisor (who goes to just to keep as many students from transferring as possible) told me that things will get better and to stick it out. They havent though., they’ve gotten worse.

With a 3.3 GPA though, I really need to work hard on my essays. I am not going to lie, I went through a period of depression last year that heavily impacted my academic performance. I’ve pulled myself together though as I realized that I cant let myself get in my own way.

^Go with your gut and try to have a range of schools you like so that you will have options for next year.

You should be very proud of yourself and being in a place where you feel comfortable is only going to improve your outlook and academic performance even further.

Best of luck!

Do consider taking a leave of absence if the first round of transfer applications don’t work out. You deserve a better college experience. Give yourself a chance to find one.
