That is either severe grade inflation or you’re a terrible test taker. Try the ACT, many people think it is an easier test and do better on it. Or study for the SAT using the blue book if you haven’t.

I actually have a friend that is in almost the same position as you (4.0 gpa and everything). She isn’t stupid, but she overthinks the problems and stresses out super easily. SAT problems are meant to be solved quickly, so redefine your strategy.

Also the SAT does not really measure intelligence imo, but that is debatable.

I was thknig same exact thing as santiara. And maybe that’s what Standerdized tests are for- to detect sever grade inflation. But it could be just what happened to me- i score much higher marks on all my essays and testa as most of the pther kids in my class (not grade, just class) and yet so many of them came out getting much higher than me on the PSAT. it’s just bad test-taking. learn new starategies, and take tons of preactice tests. remember: the SAT is surely not the prime arbiter of intelligence (although it tries to be)

Try taking the ACT. Then, if you still aren’t happy with your scores, retake the either of the tests again because you’ll be more used to taking the test.

You have the exact same score total as I had when I first took the SAT. I was just really unprepared, didn’t study at all, didn’t prepare anything for the essay, and sucked at timing. By the time I signed up to take the SAT’s the second time I was too busy studying for AP tests, I had no time to study. I did however work on my timing (which made me way more relaxed) and my score raised to 1760. Then, I finally bothered to study and after 3 months I got a 2060. Don’t be discouraged. It’s all steps. The easiest ways to increase your score is by de-stressing, working on timing, and making sure you’re ready for the essay. I think a two point improvement on your essay can raise your entire W section by like 100 points.

emalo, the same thing happens to me. Do you suffer from much “test anxiety”? Of course that is speaking subjectively, as many people do. Whenever I take a test that has multiple choice questions, I over-analyze everything, and when I can’t conclude on an answer, I always seem to go off on a tangent where I find myself drifting, and often just making random guesses, in a state of panic. Or, I’ll go too fast thinking it is easy, and then find out I got X amount wrong xD. Obviously this is my own fault, and I am trying to correct my…flaw lol. But to answer your question, no; or course you are not stupid. I do not believe that the SAT measures intellect, but it does have a purposeful standing. I recommend that you study from that good ol’ blue book, relax, and try again. Also, try the ACT.

Does anyone have any tips as to how one can overcome their unfortunate test taking skills? :P

You must be taking all the easiest classes in the school
cause that to me, well…to anyone, doesn’t make sense at all
but it looks like you get extra credits so I don’t know what to say
you are getting all As in AP or Honors classes
and got 1500 in sat?
The answers choices are 1) you are a lier or 2) you really are stupid as you stated
3) you made wrong markings during the test

A 1590 is still higher than the average of all students who take the SAT so you are not stupid. The only problem you have is that you are aspiring to schools where the average student is not a little, but a lot, higher on the SATs.

i thank those of you who criticize me in a negative fashion. your belittling only sparked, in me, a determination to earn a higher score. thank you.

i will tell you when i get my next ACT/SAT score. i will promise you they will be good.
