I am horrible at testing

I work really hard in school and take accelerated and AP classes. Right now i have a 3.98 unweighted GPA and 4.3 Weighted GPA
I took a practice SAT a couple weeks ago and i only scored CR 580, M 640, W580 (10)
Does anyone have any advice on the best way to raise SAT scores??
i want to score above a 2000. Realistic??

purchase the "Blue Book"...The Official SAT Study Guide that College Board publishes. Also, take plenty of practice tests.

Don't worry. Your gpa is strong, and matters more than sat scores. The way I studied for the sat was I bought the blue book and cracking the sat. I used the tips from cracking and applied them to the practice tests in the blue book. I would actually do a section and then immediately grade it to get instant feedback on what I was doing right or wrong. Alot of doing well on the sat is knowing the dumb little tricks and having good timing. Those come with practice. hope that helps.

okay cool thanks

I think you just need to practice. With that high a GPA, you should do well with some practice. The CB tests are great but they don't have any strategy or explanations. I also have Cracking the SAT and it's great for both of those.

zfox~ is it too late to invest in an SAT class? i recommend the Princeton Review. a MAJOR help, especially in the self-confidence category. and what about taking the ACT? some kids do better with it. i must disagree about the GPA counting more. schools, especially competitive ones will see a "red flag" if there is a large discrepancy between GPA and standardized scores. that's WHY they want the SATs/ACTs. different high schools have different rates of grade inflation, different levels of quality of AP instruction, etc. SATs are the leveling ground. i also don't think your scores are "horrible"! just not in line with your GPA. but since we don't know where you want to apply, you may be perfectly fine. best of luck!

i took the practice test at a tutoring center and i am planning on taking the SAT on June 7th. So i will hopefully get a fair amount of time put into studying. the only problem is tutoring is kinda pricey

Look up Ziggi's method here in CC. Every talks wonders about it. When your grades are good, most of the time all you need is familiarity with the test to build up your confidence. Good luck.

holy wow..this is a bit out of topic but I got the EXACT same score on my first SATs as you did. (CR 580 M 640 W 580) And I'm writing my first official SATs in June too :)

And above 2000 is definitely possible. You have plenty of time to prep.
I consider myself a pretty bad test-taker, but hell, now I'm getting solid 2100s with minimal prep.
