i have always taken the most rigorous courses i could until senior year, which have included several APs so far. but my senior year my schedule is as follows:

Leadership skills (BS name for student aide)

Honors English ( i should be taking AP like last year...)

Engineering

AP Calc AB

Engineering again, its my academy

AP Governemnt/AP economics

my unweighted GPA - 3.78, weighted - 4.8
SAT - 1630 ACT - 26 ( i know i NEED to bring these up.)

my questions are...are they stats going to be enough to get me i a school such as UF or UCF? If i bring my scores up a bit, (which i will because i did not study at all just blindly took them), will it be better? should i drop my student aide class and try to get in an AP science??? will the colleges know that i picked a semi-slack senior year?
THANKS

Scrap Leadership, that’s what all the slacker kids at my school are taking this year. Switch into AP English if you can.

yea i think im going to, and i cant get into an AP english cause it conflicts with my engineering class that i need 5th period because im apart of a robot team (vex) idk, if you know about these competitions, anyways, but im going to see if i can switch my leadership to an AP class of some sort, then my schedule would be pretty good right?

you’re fine for those schools.

How about my classes?
From California (Southern), mainly applying to private schools for financial aid since I’ll definitely qualify, 50% Macedonian but can’t get citizenship unless I give up my US citizenship haha… Widowed mom, good ECs, good recs, will have 27+ ACT (Taking sept and oct, taken many practice tests and will continue to score above 29 on those). & top 18% at a competitive private high school.

Hopeful colleges: UCB (Obvious reach), UCI, Santa Clara, USD (brother goes there), Cal Poly SLO, Bentley, U of Richmond (very interested), Wake Forest (very interested), Santa Clara U.

I’m wanting to go into business, probably majoring in finance and get more specific after taking more classes, so I’ll be applying to schools with strong business programs within my range. I’ll be applying Early (the nonbinding one) to all schools that accept it, and depending on my ACT scores I’ll be applying EA or ED (the binding one) to my mid reach.

AP Calc AB
Advanced Brit Literature (not weighted, sounds better than Eng 4, though)
Gov/AP Economics
Multimedia (required to take a visual/performing arts which sucks…)
Campus Ministry- Retreat (Catholic School, decent in terms of leadership)
AP Physics B

9-12
3.81 UW, 3.97 W (you better believe I’m getting over a 4.0 to get this above 4)

10-12 (UC)
3.88 UW, 4.13 W

(strong upward trend)

^ Regular gov for anybody that didn’t catch that. I just transferred out of AP Gov today because there would be a quiz/test EVERY class based on 30+ pages of boring text, and I’m not much of a history person.

This post obviously interested me as I had a similar concern, so if I can get help that’s great, if not I’ll make my own thread :)

p.s. you’re classes look above average, especially since a decent amount of people take 1-2 APs, 1/4 not taking any (lucky underachievers)!

I’ll be taking 2 with another 2nd semester, so I guess 3 if I’m being cheap about it, maybe raise that ACT and you’ll be in better standing. Don’t feel bad about dropping an AP or something, I did and it allows more time for college apps, as well as free time for relaxing/ studying ACT!!! Any college would prefer 2-3 points higher on the ACT over an extra AP that you may end up with a B in…

HAVE A GOOD SENIOR YEAR ERRBODY, and good luck with college apps/ hopeful acceptances!

thanks guys!! i just joined this site and i have to say i WILL be on here more if i need some more info, this site is GREAT!!!

This site’s all right. There will be times when you feel “below average” because of all the Ivy League hopefuls on these forums. But just remember that you’re still above average :)

well i know im above average compared to the general population, but where do i stand against the kids applying to these schools like UF, UCF, and Georgia Tech (my dream)? thats the real question

Use the College Search on collegeboard.com

i have lol, but i wanted a real persons input, stats say alot but advice from people is better

Well, unless you’re an Ivy hopeful, you’re not going to get a realistic representation of your competition on this site. And even then, hmmm…

I guess you could try going to the specific forums for your target schools. The people there will still probably be overqualified, but it’s more realistic than here in the general admissions forum.

ok thanks, and i got a schedule change today, OLD then NEW -
OLD
- Leadership skills (BS name for student aide)
- Honors English ( i should be taking AP like last year…)
- Engineering
- AP Calc AB
- Engineering again, its my academy
- AP Governemnt/AP economics

NEW
- Honors English
- AP Environmental Sci
- Engineering
- AP Calc AB
- Engineering
- AP Gov., AP Macro Econ.

I dropped student aide and got AP Environmental, i felt too guilty lol having such a slack schedule. but this should convince the admissions officers i still worked senior year…

Much better. Seriously, leadership is a joke at my school and the people in that class don’t actually do anything productive for our school (they just make crappy signs).

lol we actually did help the teachers alot but it doesnt “teach” so what is the point of the CLASS, we were the slaves of the school staff
