I am HS class of 2010 and my Junior Year Course load was

AP US History- A
AP Calculus A/B- A
AP Psychology- A
Honors Chemistry- A
Honors English 11- A
French III- A
GPA UW- 4.00 W-4.83

That was a little tough for me, but I pulled through. Now we are choosing classes for Senior Year and I signed up for

AP Government
AP Macro Econ
AP Lang + Lit
AP Physics
AP Calculus B/C
AP French IV
Journalism
Academic Decathlon

I wanted to have a relatively easy senior year, but I know this schedule will probably be very demanding

I was thinking of either taking English 1A at the community college or dropping French IV to provide some relief...however, will doing so influence my admission chances?

I am applying to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD and possibly HYPSM if I can get my SAT past 2250

Will taking not taking AP English and instead taking English 1A at the community college (or also dropping AP French) ruin my prospects of getting in?

I don’t know about your school, but for my school if I took your senior courseload I would probably be completely exhausted everyday. Just AP English Lit would take so much of my time up. Depending on your school Physic can be a pretty tough class as well. But all your ap classes will require lots of effort and time dedicated to reading. I learned the hard way that most of these AP class will probably give you lots of work to do over Christmas break which is pretty awful since you should be focused on you college applications if you haven’t finished them yet. If you’re smart you will get ahead and finish the apps before Christmas break. Good luck.

If you’re aiming at top colleges, sernior year should be as challenging as your school/area allows. Tis is no time to think about keeping it relatively easy. If you need a break, take an easy freshmen year of college.

Have you considered keeping the AP Lang & LIt, and AP French IV, and dropping AP Ec and AP Gov? You would still have 4 APs, and rigorous schedule.

If the top kids at your school all go with 6 APs, then that is certainly preferable, but you don’t want to get into a situation of academic distress and bad grades by being overwhelmed. Good luck in any case!

College applications are like carrying another AP. You are carrying way too much.

And don’t even think about traveling to a CC to take more. BAd grades could knock you out as easily to not taking absolutely everything. Life is about choice and trade offs; you don’t go to a grocery story and buy everything. Same with high school and college classes.

Actually describing your trade off process would make a good essay.

One class choice won’t matter. Taking ALL easy classes will matter. Since you’re taking 6 APs (which is way too much btw) you’re fine.

Oh and don’t let having below a 2250 stop you from applying to those top schools. Your GPA is fantastic and if your ECs are up to bar you have a good shot.
