When I thought of college this is the image that came to mind: academics.

Having spent a year in college, these are some of the images that come to mind: alcohol, drugs, sex, parties, cliques, conceited preppies, expensive clothing, lame extracurricular activities which people do just to have something to write on their resumes and an excuse to socialize.

The problem is not that I go to a second rate school, you'll find the same type of student culture at most elite universities across the country, the problem is that college is not what it used to be (at least in my mind). The problem could also be that I have always had an introverted personality and permissive parents, so I never saw college as an opportunity to do all the "cool" things my parents forbade me to do.

By the way, does anyone know of some decent school in the US where a person with my "style" would fit in?

(I would be an excellent candidate for an online school if it weren't because they suck.)

Seriously? There have been dozens of threads like this already. I don’t know what you’ve been doing but all of college isn’t like that. Like the first response to you said, College is what you make it. Stop being so god damn lazy and look for something interesting at your college - it won’t come to you.

You can mope around all day and complain on an internet forum, or you can actually find something in your college that interests you.

Then work on it. Unless you have severe mental or physical impairments, there isn’t a guy in the world who can’t get laid if you play your cards right.

This forum is filled with people with mental disabilities and social anxieties and by associating with you are only bring yourself down with them.

^ as opposed to people who join just to make tons of posts disparaging those who go to ivy league schools? seriously, just chill. my friends in ivy schools are some of the nicest, most laid back people I know. half your posts are just you reinforcing dumb stereotypes which makes you as bad as the pmvd’s of the board who incessantly complain.

but your advice to pmvd was spot on here lol :p

edit ohh as for college suggestions, maybe UChicago if you’re smart, I hear a lot of students there are not as social and more into studying and stuff.

so you are an introvert looking to find other introverts so you all can make a point of not getting together and socializing? you want to be a part of something while being left alone?

I have mental problems, and I have an official diagnosis. I always knew it wasn’t typical for a person my age to be the way I am, then I got my diagnosis and I was proved right.
