So last year i filled out the fafsa very early (i think february) but this year i just now about ten minutes ago submitted my application. Priority filing date was March, 1 but my advisor encouraged me to apply even though i wouldn't have priority. I want to cry i feel like i'm not going to get any aid. last year i recieved in total about 7 thousand in grants with an efc of zero. This year my efc was 940. Do you think i'll still get grants? i'm not concerned with loans just grants. please any information or thoughts?

You are still entitled to any government-supported money that will be available. This generally means the Pell Grant, which your EFC is low enough to qualify for. However, it’s somewhat less likely that you will get the same amount of institutional grants (from the school) that someone who bothered to fill out the FAFSA on time would receive.

You’ll get the maximum Pell Grant with that kind of EFC ($5,500, I believe), and the government really doesn’t care when you submit your FAFSA, as long as it’s a reasonable time before the semester begins. I’m sure there’s a date but I don’t know it.

Always apply even if you didn’t meet the deadline. Some schools have money leftover that may just be waiting for someone to claim.
