Am I too old for Harvard College?

I think this question has been up before but let's air it again:
I'm an -87 living in Denmark and currently studying in second grade. High school here ends third grade which means I got one more year left. I already took a break after 9th grade (1 year) and I'm not doing any military service or anything. But still I'm 18 now (turning 19 this summer) and I will turn 20 by the time I get enrolled to Harvard (that will say if I get admitted). So fill me out here is it normal that freshmen are 20 years? I mean some people might choose to take a year off or do military service and start theyr studies after a couple of years but still. I'm a little worried I'll be much older than my peers.

Don't want to be like "blue" in the movie Old School :D

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought you were going to say something like you were in your 30's or 40's...

The difference between 18 and 20 is INSIGNIFICANT, and will not matter one tiny bit.

"is it normal that freshmen are 20 years?"

No. Nineteen is pretty old to be a freshman. I'll be seventeen. Most freshman will be eighteen. One of my friends (sorta lol), though, will be twenty or almost twenty when he starts, I think.

The oldest kids will be 20 (or almost), and the youngest kids will be 16. Anthing out of that range is too much of a difference, but I think the 16-20 range is OK, especially for non US applicants.

Alright. But if we consider that I'm running a profitable business, will that make it look better? :)

20 is not too old. It's about two years older than a typical enrolling freshman, but a two year gap once you hit twenty is pretty trivial.

corranged,

"Anything out of that range is too much of a difference..."

where the heck did you get that wacko info?

The average first-year will be 18 with most between 17-20...
but so what? There will be a small, but not insignificant number of people who are admiited even though they are in their mid-20's or older.
There are NO AGE restrictions to apply.

Anything out of that age range will be considered differently, I would guess. As I said, most kids will be 17-19, with 16-20 being fine. If a 15 year old or a 21 year old would be freshman applies, the college is almost certainly going to want to know why and will consider the applicant in a different way than your average eighteen year old kid. The other thing is that he will only be twenty when he starts college; he will be nineteen when he applies. I was sixteen when I applied. In that general age range (around 16-20), I don't think it really matters, but outside of it will incure some questions, I'm guessing.

I'm not being confrontational or anything. lol I want Corporate (and me!) at Harvard. We have some big plans together, if I remember correctly, including perhaps some girl hurnting. ;)

Corporatefinance,

When my daughter was a freshman at Harvard there was a guy in her dorm who was something like 24 or 25 years old. He was also a freshman, and like you he was a European who had started his own business. If they like the rest of your application, you age will not be an issue.

If you start as a freshman at age 20, everbody will assume you're a hockey player.

Alright thanks for the answers everyone! Really great to know this, I'm going to apply for H after all :) and corranged, no offense bro' we sure got big plans ;)

Coureur, Thanks for that reply. Great to know I'm not alone or too awkward :) business sure takes time...

Hey corporate, what kind of business do you do? I have a business as well.

i remember someone telling me (i think it was Fitzsimmons) that they had a 60-something year old enroll as a freshman a little while ago.

There's a 22 year-old in our freshman class this year.

If it helps any, my buddy will be a freshman at an Ivy League at age 21.

Sunglasses-Did you talk to the "25 year old freshman" from Russia... who turned out to be some guy from Yale visiting friends and talking ****?

I am a -87 too but it doesn't stop me from doing what I want to do. And definitely not too old for harvard - maybe it's somehow an advantage (haha) because you are more mature.... ;)

Sevendust - "Hey corporate, what kind of business do you do? I have a business as well"

I'm in the advertising/commercial/PR biz. You?

Don't worry. One of my friends at Dartmouth was 25 at graduation and no one knew, those who did couldn't have cared less.

xD How sad I'll be 19 when I'm a freshman at college. :P Don't worry about it.
