I am a rising junior. Starting this year, I will be an IB student. I have a 4.0 GPA and 98 grade average.
I run track (800m). I am president of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) at my school, treasurer of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), and also a member of Beta Club, National Honor Society, and Buddy Club (a club where some students help special needs students). I have been in all of these clubs (except NHS & Beta Club) since freshman year.
I also volunteer at a nursing home, and I sometimes tutor adults learning English. I have been doing these since last summer.
Some teachers say that I am the manifestation of the perfect college applicant. Others tell me that colleges will think that I am just trying to hard. They say that I should just go for the things I am passionate for. The thing is...I have a passion for everything I have listed here.
What do you think my chances are of getting into Duke and Vanderbilt? How about Columbia and Brown?
Also, do you think I'm doing a bit too much?

Well maybe you could write about (in your college essay) how you love doing all these things but you don’t want to seem like your trying too hard etc… or maybe try focusing on one of those things and doing a lot with it until college applications start and then tell them that you are passionate about that stuff…

consider leaving a couple things off your list. maybe do only the leadership positions and talk about your passion in the essays.

Just a heads up, when you apply to Duke/Vandy and if you get accepted to one, don’t tell anyone you applied to the other, they will make you a social outcast.

I don’t think it’s “too well-rounded” at all, your clearly demonstrate a passion in serving others. Now you have to put your compassion into words for your college essays, so they don’t think you’re just another striver.
