hopkinslax, so we don't have a placement test for Math?

i know i saw a refrigerator, desk chairs, and tv in one of the rooms...there's some size the refrigerator has to be though...

Math:
There are three intro series:
140 - Calculus for non-majors
160 - Calculus for majors, science majors, and engineers
170 - Theoretical calculus

The placement will be either through APs or SATs... If you get a 4 or 5 on BC you can skip 161&162 and go to 163 or 165
if you get 4 or 5 on ab you can skip 161 and go to 162

The refrigerator can't be above 4.3 cubic feet... You can also bring a microwave... Chairs are provided...

what do u have to have on sats to be placed higher? does the sat II math 2c help any?

If you did well, then you will get into the 160... It's more of recommendation than a requirement.

hopkinslax, do you know who Harmon Potter is?

crabbylady:
microwaves - yes, refrigerators - yes, coffepots? not really Lol.
chairs? - yes tv's - yes
U can see for urself in one of the pictures i took of a dorm.

Wow, awesome pictures Awakien! I'm really excited to go now! I'm sending in my enrollment form on Monday.

He is a Delta Upsilon alumnus

Harmon Potter? Is that a joke? Or is there someone at UR whose name is Harmon Potter?

There was... he is an alumnus of the Delta Upsilon fraternity

Oh, Thanks!

heh.. so what's so bad about 170 lvl calc? and what do u need to do to get into that?

and im definitely skipping first year of chem. if i take 131 and 132, i'd be taking intro to chem for the fourth and fifth time, repectively. im sorry, but no.

Is there any penalty for students who skip classes? Actually, do they have very strict attendance policy?

You have to take at least 132 then (No way to skip it)
You need AB 4-5 or BC 3-5 to get into the 170 series... It is pretty tough (170) and it really won't help science majors (particuarly involving math) because everything is theoretical...

i see. so how do u skip 131? do u just say, i want to skip it or do u need ap or sat2 scores? cause my sat 2 scores are good, but my ap's are 3's.

yeah, do all the professors take attendance? i thought you didn't have to show up to every class?

You can only skip 131 if you have a 4 or a 5 on the AP test (SAT II's do not count). But you still must take 132 if you are a science major...
Professors will tell you their attendence policy. But you are paying 40K a year to attend. Why would you skip a class?

interesting... i was told that i could skip the first two semesters of chem by both the students i talked to (tho they were mostly chem engineering majors.. maybe it's different?) and the admissions staff. i really really don't want to be learning the same stuff all over again.

yea, i just posted something about hta in one of the other threads lol. skip freshmen chem
