Good start to the show. No favorites yet, nor anyone I dislike.
Swords vs spa would have been a tough choice for me. Lol.

Btw, for those also watching Survivor, I started a thread as I couldn’t find one for season 45.

And I closed it with a link to the existing thread.
First, I can’t believe it took them so long to figure out City of Angels. The clue said it described a location, didn’t it? You would think CITY would be easy to figure out. Once you remove those letters, the second word would be OF or ON.
I think Rob and Corey are kind of like the reunited twins or Luke & Margie Adams. They have an endearing story which draws viewers in.
We saw the interpreter during the road block. I wonder if he travels everywhere with them (ex. in the car, in all challenges, etc.). Or, does he travel with the crew and only step in when when Rob is doing a solo challenge. I wish they would have introduced him at the beginning.
I like Greg and John and thought it was cool that John was learning sign language. I can see those two teams working together in the future.
Jocelyn and Victor seem fit and savvy. They work together, so there will probably be less fighting or miscommunication.
Hopefully not as whiny as Luke.
I was wondering that too. The car would be pretty crowded. I don’t remember there being an interpreter for Luke, but it’s been a while since I watched their seasons.
Agreed. I quickly figured out “of” then “city” so it was only a few seconds to do the remaining six letters. Although, I was second guessing myself since they were already in Los Angeles, and I never heard Bangkok described as such.
They should only need an interpreter when Rob is doing a challenge alone. So they probably just have an interpreter on hand at each roadblock. The interpreter doesn’t need to travel since Rob has his son with him.
Curiosity made me look it up. According to producer Elise Doganieri, accomodations were made for an interpreter at each location. So it sounds like there is an interpreter, but not the same one in each locale.
Thank you! I was wondering that as well.
Yep, that’s what I figured.
Sure looks like we are going to have the usual “direction/driving” disaster(s). Rob and Corey my early faves. Greg and John and and Jocelyn and Victor seem to be strong teams. Good combination of fitness and savvy/mental toughness. Teams prone to panicking and infighting never do well.
I’m team Rob and Corey 100%.
I myself would totally suck at it IRL because I need my sleep when I travel (and in every other circumstance) and it seems like a real grind.
Anyone here think they could do it for real?
My college daughter was fortunate to cobble together some work as a paid production assistant this summer on several reality/documentary shows, as filming was shut down on all other shows due to the writer’s strike. She watched her 45+ internship applications to intern in development go from active/in review (still knew they all were a long shot, but fun to try) be cancelled - it was a grim spring/summer for college film kids all over.
While it was not the summer she had envisioned, she was able to pivot and get hired for some well known reality/doc shows as a PA (driving the van, getting lunch, coffee etc)…but the one that got away was the Amazing Race finale!!! It was only after the fact that she realized that was the show and they had reviewed her profile and then came back needing an age requirement that she didn’t meet. It is probably for the better, as we would have tried so hard to guilt her into telling us the winner and location and now we just have to watch like everyone else.
Agree that this was a fun episode. I too like Rob and Corey and Jocelyn and Victor, who seem to be very even-keeled. I also have a soft spot for Liam and Yeremi.
Love the 90 minute episodes, especially at the beginning with 12 or 13 teams.
Off to a great start! I’m happy actual airline travel is back. It adds back an element of shuffling things up that can’t be controlled.
I loved Morgan eating the bugs. She was just shoving them in her mouth like peanuts. And kudos to Andrea and Malaina for trying the sword routine instead of just picking spa. I can see how the sword being heavier than the practice stick could throw them off.
The eliminated team sounded like my husband and I when we’re trying to decide on a restaurant – “you say what you want to do.” “No you say what you want to do.” “I don’t care.” “I don’t care either.” I was pretty sure they would be eliminated. They said they were fans of the show but they didn’t seem like they wanted to be there.
So far I like most of the teams, except maybe Todd. I think the weakest teams will be Elizabeth and Iliana and Steve and Anna Leigh. I don’t get the vibe that Steve really wants to be there either, but that Anna Leigh REALLY does.
Really love the 90 mins - and glad to be back to mom-chartered flights!
I know no names yet but I enjoyed a couple couples right off the bat. Military brothers, The couple that won, deaf dad and son.
The roommates/sibs - drove me crazy with deciding who would do the task!
I enjoyed the first episode - the eliminated team was the right one. They were an oddball team. I didn’t realize they were siblings.
I’m already rooting for the CODA kid and his dad; I like a few others as well. The couple that won the episode could be a very strong team since they work together and seem to really like one another.
While they didn’t have a charter flight it didn’t seem that they had to book their own flight either. Just board one of 2 flights. Maybe they’ll have to book later in the season.
I didn’t think it was right to practice an event with something that was (apparently) much lighter than what would actually be used. Like practicing weightlifting with dumbbells and then having to compete with a barbell. No comparison. I’ve had Thai massage, and let me tell you, it really does hurt! Afterward though, you’re much more limber and energetic.
Loving the 90 minute episodes!
Bring on the next episode!
They haven’t booked their own flights for many many seasons now. Occasionally, you’ll find them booking their own short-hop flights, but due to production costs and security, most flights are pre-booked.
Agreed
Just finished watching the first episode. I really like the father-son team. They are so cute.
That was A LOT of bugs to eat!!! I don’t think I could have done it.
Good episode tonight. I would not have chosen the market task for the detour, though.
I didn’t see much new character development, so my favorites remain Rob & Corey and Garrett & Joel
I also enjoyed the episode but probably would have picked the shopping just for interest and not strategic reasons. I thought it was hilarious when a team overfilled their boat and sank it.
Victor has a slight advantage in Thailand with his knowledge of the language. Not sure if it factored in to their win but lets see how it goes once they are in another country.
Great episode. A lot of beautiful scenery. I would have been ok with either challenge, but I probably would have chosen the market.
I wonder where to next!
