Amc 10 score

I just read my school news that my friend scored 99.9% nationally on AMC 10 and he scored the highest score in state(southern). Does it mean my friend made almost perfect score on it? Or just 99.9 out of 150? But it doesn't say he qualified for AIME.
Also, does taking AMC/AIME/USAMO guarantee getting accepted to MIT, Havard or other top universities?

99.9% might mean he got a near perfect score, you can ask your school to look up his score(with his permission of course).

AMC and the like are indeed big pluses but are no guarantees.

Of course not, since anyone can participate in this competition (by taking one of the AMC tests, after which they may or may not get to take the AIME). Doing really well can help you.

Taking AMC/AIME/USAMO in no way guarantees you being accepted into a top school. However qualifying for AIME and USAMO can help quite a bit.
From what you say I’m guessing your friend got in the 99.9 Percentile (A score of 99.9 isnt possible)
According to the statistics from the website: https://amc-reg.maa.org/reports/generalreports.aspx</a> ,
He probably got a 144/150 or possibly a couple points lower
This could easily mean that he scored the highest in your state and the score easily qualifies him for AIME only (120 needed) I’m guessing it was already implied that he qualified because his score was so high, or they just didn’t bother including it since it’s not as big of a deal especially with a score like that.

How impressive is 144 on amc 10?

Very impressive.

So u think he will be likely to get into mit or harvard? He has pretty decent act and grades and ecs… hes risinhgjunior.

^ someone’s jelly

Yes, you are right. I am kind of jealous of him. But I really don’t want to see such a hypocritical and pretentious kid getting into top colleges…

Getting accepted to top schools includes many things.
If his essay/recommendations/extracurriculars are not impressive too, chances are he’s not going to MIT/Harvard.

@sam1999 lol, i have somebody like that. just study really hard then later rub it in his face…

He is the most hypocritical kid I have ever met in my entire life. Seriously his personality is nasty, not even lying. He looks down on everyone if a he thinks a person is not smarter than him ; he thinks he’s the best. I really can’t believe that he’s aiming Harvard/MIT. I really don’t want to see him getting accepted and pretend to be a perfect kid. But I have to admit that he is very smart and has good shots. I feel just stressful… I should let the feeling go, but it’s hard.

I know that feeling too

Guys, I haven’t won any major awards or participated math competitions. The only EC I do is soccer and I am dying for soccer. I know that it’s very late to shot for MIT/Harvard, can you guys any give advice? I do have almost perfect gpa and projected 2250 sat score (rising junior) I want to see him getting rejected and I’m getting accepted. I madly want to rub it in his face.

^how good are you @ soccer? b/c if it’s mediocre then honestly you might as well quit… sorry… anyways hope you have the chance to rub it in his face…

I guess I am pretty good to be recruited. I am hoping to become a captain and win the state champion next year.
